How do I get rid of long hair that has washed down the plug hole? I have tried fishing them out with a variety of things but no luck. The are obviously all stuck together in a ball and stopping the water going down.
Would soda crystals break them up or one of the sink unblockers you can buy?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Caustic Soda (not the same as soda crystals) will work brilliantly. As well as getting rid of the hair it'll clean off anything else in the pipes too - gunk, soap, everything). It's available from ironmongery type places, possibly Woolies and RObert Dyas as well. One tub/bottle will last do many applications.
Broadly speaking, you add it to water, leave it in the bucket or jug until it has dissolved, carefully pour it down the plug hole, and then come back after 20 mins and rinse.
It's caustic, so you MUST follow the instructions, especially the bit about adding the cautic soda to the water (and not the other way around). The caustic soda reacts with the water you see.0 -
you are joking, arent you?0

Ha ha nice one, I was wondering how to get rid of hair and gunk, think I have some spare veet lying around in the bathroom cabinet!!0

The hair remover idea does work. Squirt it down plughole, leave for half an hour or so then pour soda crystals dissolved in hot water down.0

so you need to use the caustic soda to clear away the veet
just use the soda?0 -
Yep Veet foam I find the best, but the cream works just aswell, the veet just washes away, I usually leave it a good 20 mins or so.One day I might be more organised...........

The post says to use soda crystals after the veet, not caustic soda. soda crystals arent as strong as caustic soda and people are more likely to have veet and soda crystals than to have caustic soda

I find twiddling a cotton bud, or maybe many round and round collects the hair and then it all jams up together and with a paper clip or something hooky you can pull it out. It is pretty disgusting. I work as a cleaner for some people, 3 of whom have long curly hair and I have pulled out practically a handful of gunky hair and soap combined.
Just something you may like to try. The cotton bud trick keeps on top of the hairs if you twirl it weekly!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
