My mum has a conversation with them when they start. She tells them when they start they can have 50p a week or she will put the 50p away into a jar and they will get it at Christmas (they can cash it in if they leave before then) £26.
Me when I have money on me pay weekly, often someone else has emptied my purse so then pay monthly, 2 weeks arrears and 2 weeks advance and come Christmas give her £10 for being so understanding that I am a dozy so and so.................by the way me and my mum share the same paper girl and I was at school with her mum:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
I find it really hard to believe that people wouldnt tip a paper boy, some people are so tight! We dont have a paper boy but always tip our postman and would tip the dustman too if they were any good. I think tipping depends on area as well. I come from London and was brought up to always tip a cab driver, hairdresser etc but we have relations in Cornwall that wouldn't dream of it.0

I agree it sounds very tight & like you would tip a paper boy/girl if I had papers delivered. My postman always gets a tip as I appreciate all the carrying & hard work he has to do in all weathers & I do order a lot of stuff from the internet, so feel he really deserves it. I know when I was growing up, my parents always tipped the postman & milkman & I remember the dustmen used to come & knock on the door expecting a tip.
Dustmen I have never tipped as I used to have a friend who worked for a London council on the payroll section & revealed to me the nice healthy bonus's dustmen were getting on top of their pay.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
DS1 gave cards to everyone on his paper round.
DS2 did not.
DS1 got better tips.
DS3 thought paper rounds were too much like hard work ... so refused to consider doing one! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
What a clever boy DS3 is! :rotfl:The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

it's mostly kids getting up in the bad weather at 6am to deliver papers, a £ or ££ wont hurt
My 3 children all had paper rounds, morning and evening. They always wrote Christmas cards for their customers - many were elderly and DS2 particularly worried about them being lonely. At first the newsagent supplied cards (with a newspaper advertised on the back) but later we bought cards (in January!).
They did get tips, sometimes £2 or £5, sometimes more.
A £5 tip = 10p a week.
I know that the newsagent charged per delivery, but he got the lion's share!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I get my evening paper delivered and have no delivery fee. I don't tip and object to being called tight. I will spend what little money I have as I choose. I rarely tip anyone, certainly no for just doing what they are paid for. A tip is only for exceptional service and if I ever get it I may reconsider!Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Do you enjoy reading your free weekly or morning paper without the hassle of parking the car and queuing? Would you miss it if you didn't have it?
A little show of your appreciation at Christmas is nice and the wage for a paper round is ridiculously small for such a lousy early morning/ evening/ all weather job. Its got to be worthy of £3.00 of anyone's money!
I usually tip my postman when I remember mid Jan and he never minds0 -

Why on earth would I be parking a car to go to a newsagent for my paper?
There is nothing special about those who get up early to deliver post or papers, lots of people do who nobody would ever think of tipping.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
