Tip?, I'll give them a tip - try emptying my bin without me having to ring your boss every week because you "forgot" to do our lane again.

    Hi,

No I don't tip, I agree with Rachbc, they are all paid a wage to do their job.

I wouldn't know our milkman if I passed him in the street. These a regular postman who I recognise, but thats only because he looks like Ben Elton :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
The whole point of tipping is if you receive a service over and above what you'd expect. As I receive a sub standard service from the binmen and the postman I won't be tipping them.

As a former postie, you will find that your postie will very much appreciate this. Someone asked if £5 was acceptable, I would have found it more than acceptable. Used to get given bottles as present, which was lovely, but meant having to carry them round the rest of the duty, managed to break a bottle of whisky in my bag and everyone's letters had a lovely smell from them :rotfl:

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!
  • Funnily I was just having this conversation with my mom and dad as I never even realised it was something people do!!! - I never saw it happen as a child and just thought you tipped for meals/taxis etc.

To be honest, my bin men are terrible...I'd not really want to give them £5 because I personally don't think they deserve it! They get a good wage for a job they don't even do properly around these parts. Now I feel I should though so I don't look like a scrooge :rotfl:

However, I have a postwoman who is soooo lovely and I most definitely want to give her a £5 tip - it's just something I've never done so I think I'll be really awkward about it....plus, I'm not due any more parcels so I've got an image of hearing the letter box go and rushing to the door and chasing her down the street to give her the tip :rotfl:
  • I was wondering this because I have a great postie who I chat to most days. He always puts parcels in my shed if I'm out and generally looks out for everyone. I wasn't sure if a tip was still customary. I might hand him a card with a fiver now.
Bin men I don't see because I put the bins out into the road which is down a long lane.

would a christmas card with money in it be the right way to tip? Never tipped before but this thread has just made me think that our postman is fantastic, he will always leave a parcel out the back if we are not in to save us going to the office, he will always put a card through to let us know as well. He greets the dog and stands and has a little chat and is always friendly and it seems a shame to let him think this goes unnoticed.

It seems a bit uncomfortable to just hand money to him when he puts the letters through the door :o
