What wood are y'all burning?

Ive got a tonne of chestnut and silver birch that has been seasoning since feb and ive got a tonne of ash that i got in october.
The chestnut isnt very good as it burns too fast.
The birch is ok, burns a bit fast but heat is ok.
The ash is by far the best though, good heat and a slow burn and it doesnt need seasoning!
I can get Larch cheap but ive heard mixed reviews on it.

Birch and Oak.
All off cuts from a local shopfitters, it burns lovelyabsolutley bone dry and unfinished so quite big chunks

Larch is one of the best options if you're burning softwood.
Ash will burn green, but that's because it's a naturally drier wood to begin with - and to be honest, it's a bit wasteful as it's even better when properly dry.
Here at home we're burning briquettes as usual - much more heat than logs and so much more convenient. Haven't paid for logs in many years and wouldn't go bac to them now unless they were free!

Cherry, apple and pear wood from our orchard, also got quite a lot of old palletwood which I mainly use for kindling and adding to the fire when i've got a very big log that needs a boost to get going.

If you are in a smokeless zone area perhaps wood burners are exempt, really nice smell when he burns coal on it though.0

I used to burn mainly oak, from offcuts from a wooden floor company and whatever I could get hold of from my tree surgeon neighbour for free, and my mate in the antiques trade used to save up all the old hardwood animal ornaments for me. Fireplace always looked a bit odd with a load of gazelles, elephants and buffaloes burning away.,0

I've got 2 year seasoned oak and some 18 month seasoned ash but I'm burning smokeless at the moment. The wood is there for backup in the unlikely event we get -15C temps again0

I burn about a tonne a week. Mostly laurel (a member of the cherry family). Grows like crazy here and we have to clear it or the other trees are weakened. It's an excellent firewood, better than chestnut (we have sweet and horse, both pretty crap) and any softwood. Beech is excellent, oak good but helps to mix it as it's a very slow burner. Also have a massive amount of sequoia as we had to bring down a big one 2 years ago. It's not brilliant but varies alot from very light and quick to burn, almost like balsa at the periphery, and denser and better in the centre. Ash, Cherry and Oak, all seasoned for approx 2 years. I helped my Dad take down 7 oak/sycamore/ash trees last week that will are going to be for his 2014/2015 stash!0

Whatever offcuts my partner brings home from work. Find Oak lasts the longest but to be honest its free so I'm not too bothered.0
