I know this sounds like a daft question ,but my local bank (HSBC) are running a campaign to get people to unplug electrical items whilst not in use. And I mean UNPLUG, not just switch them off at the wall.Is there any benefit in this, or is it just as money-saving to switch off at the plug .I know this probably sounds obvious to most ,but I don't know if there is a greener saving by actually removing the plug from the socket or not .
I'm not a very technical person at all:o . I usually just switch the T.V. off at the plug when I go to bed as our local fire safety officer said it was dangerous to leave things switched on or on stand-by over-night especially older t.v.sets as they can sometimes over-heat
Any bright sparks know the answer:D

There is no benefit actually unplugging any appliance, so just carry on switching them off at the socket outlet. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Turning them off at the socket is fine, unplugging them does not save any more electric.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
