Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime... I think some people (like me) are coming from the perspective of having been there and knowing that not being aware of your balance and outgoings is a warning sign your finances are getting out of control. Simply joining in an anti Tesco rant would ignore the issue.
I'm not suggesting a 'oh poor you' response either.
I think what might have been better (?) might have been, a variation on 'oh gosh, that's horrible timing, here are some suggestions to help you *now* but for future reference perhaps keep a better eye on your bank account and perhaps do 'this' or 'that'' as the panic was *now* after-all.Our LBM: Dec 2011. I think a post starting "Help tescos have just ruin our Christmas!"could have generated ranting or pointless pity and instead there has been advice, which was a lot more helpful. Some people have been blunt whereas some have responded similarly to how you suggested.0 -
Hi OP i haven't read all the comments so sorry if this has been said, but can you not try and get back the charges from your bank. I think the £300 you will have to say good bye to if already taken, they're hardly going to give it back now so you pay after xmas. But I've asked banks before now (santander & barclays) for charges back and they will refund up to two charges a year if you ask them.
I hope you get something sorted, this sort of thing used to happen to me pre-mse days and it really was gutting

When did you ask Barclays?
Just out of curiosity as they have a policy now that charges won't be refunded unless it's their error.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Firstly I believe it is 6 years, not months to claim a payment.
But after a certain amount of time, the company claiming the payment, has to contact the customer before taking the money to say the money is going to be taken. I'm not sure how long after the purchase this is.
It is possible if it is over a month, then notification is needed, the OP may be able to claim the money back and at the least have the money for over the Xmas period before it is taken out. Or even possibly ask to pay in installments.0 -
What you mean is, you thought you had got away with it and now you are gutted that you have not. It is not Tesco's fault, it is yours so don't try passing the buck, accept that you owe it and pay up!Hi
Proberly not the right place for this rant but I feel the need to shout about this, last five years have been finical he'll for us with a mortgage and three children just a just stopped ourself from drowning by hubby working 2 jobs and me working part time to get to now and say yes we have done it no outstanding bills no red letters due untill today! When I had z text from bank to say there was I large debit out of an account which I haven,t been using, when I phoned the bank they explain that it was a card payment to tescos, when in horror I stated I have not spent this much or used my card they looked deeper to say it was a card payment which I had made on the 3rd October and that tesco had not processed it until now and they were well within there rights to do it up to 6 months later! When I contacted tescos they had no explanation why it had happened but it had and that was that when I stated that I could not afford this a would have to return the item I got told I could not! At this moment in time I am gutted not only have I got to find £300 from somewhere I will also now have bank charges. I just can't beleive they can do this, if I have notifcation that they had not taken my payment in October for what evervthe reason is ( as they won't give me one) at least I could have put something in place to at least stop the bank charges! Sorry it's a long rant but as I said I feel gutted! You live..You learn.:)0 -
Its a pain. It happened to us a couple of months ago. our local shop/petrol station must have had a fault on their system they saved up 350 quids worth of charges. At first we thought there had been an error/fraud because we have never spent over £100 at any one time but we were lucky that we could just cover it. if it had happened when we were skint we would have been in trouble. so i symaphise but theres nowt to be done.0

just logged on last night and seen a company has taken a recurring payment for £80.80 when I bought the item it was a one of trial, low and behold they had sent an email which my inbox dealt with as junk and I missed it. Last time I buy anything for a family member overseas again!
Consequences the air went blue and I have £5 till Tuesday, the CHB lands, and then another payday on the 22nd. however I shall be Christmas shopping on the 22nd!
Yep sure you will dig at me now saying I should have budgeted however only just woke up to the mess I am in about a month ago.
Anyway back to the case in hand, kcbettle i can totally feel for you and I felt a right idiot! It isn't nice when you are hovering on the edge0 -
Hi folks,
I'd like to say that there are some very varied opinions on this thread. Yes, kcbeetle bought the product and it would appear wrongly thought the payment had been taken and should have noticed it wasn't, but we all fail to notice things from time to time so theres no point in saying how did you miss the fact the money hadn't been taken as it's done now. KC I do sympathise with your predicament as I would have been guilty of similar errors in the past. Obviously you'll have to pay Tesco the £300 as you got the goods, but hopefully can get the bank charges refunded due to exceptional circumstances. Text can be misconstrued, so we should all think before posting replies as we all make mistakes. KC and the other posters on this thread, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year despite any financial or other setbacks.
RedIf you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.
