Help tescos have just ruin our Christmas!

Hi

Proberly not the right place for this rant but I feel the need to shout about this, last five years have been finical he'll for us with a mortgage and three children just a just stopped ourself from drowning by hubby working 2 jobs and me working part time to get to now and say yes we have done it no outstanding bills no red letters due untill today! When I had z text from bank to say there was I large debit out of an account which I haven,t been using, when I phoned the bank they explain that it was a card payment to tescos, when in horror I stated I have not spent this much or used my card they looked deeper to say it was a card payment which I had made on the 3rd October and that tesco had not processed it until now and they were well within there rights to do it up to 6 months later! When I contacted tescos they had no explanation why it had happened but it had and that was that when I stated that I could not afford this a would have to return the item I got told I could not! At this moment in time I am gutted not only have I got to find £300 from somewhere I will also now have bank charges. I just can't beleive they can do this, if I have notifcation that they had not taken my payment in October for what evervthe reason is ( as they won't give me one) at least I could have put something in place to at least stop the bank charges! Sorry it's a long rant but as I said I feel gutted!

Although I sympathise, surely you noticed that you hadn't paid for the product(s)?

They do have 6 months to finalise the transaction and occasionally this happens. So what happened to the money that was in your account to cover the transaction?

  • Sorry but it's our responsibility to check that payments have been taken before we take money from our bank accounts - you should always check these anyway to ensure that the payments have been taken for the correct amount (mistakes do happen and wrong amounts can be taken or taken twice etc).

Mr T's is not at fault here (appreciate that's not what you want to hear sorry) .......

I check my bank balance DAILY to ensure that ALL payments have been taken and so I can be sure that what (little) I have left is mine before I go spending.

  • Although I do have some sympathy - perhaps it's time to do an SOA and get your finances sorted out so that if this happens again, you are prepared for it?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • The bank had allocated payment which they held for so long (this is what the bank told me) when they didn't claim it I believe it must have been put back but I stupidly pursumed that when u make a debit card payment ffrom a cash account it the amounts is taking from your available balance and then the transaction shows the next day or at the most 2! Yes I know I should have notice but I didn't and the fact that they didn't take the payment was my fault? I don't believe it is but at least I think they could have sent a letter telling me there had been a problem surely!

I feel sorry for you, there's nothing worse than something like this coming up from behind and biting you on the bum when you least expect it. No wonder you feel like ranting, I would too.

BUT, when you finish ranting, you need to be honest with yourself and admit that the only reason this caught you out was because you weren't keeping a firm eye on your budget.

If you were looking after your finances properly, this would not have happened, no matter how late Tesco were at applying for the money. Best way to deal with this and move on is to see things as they really are and use it as a lesson for the future.

  • Sorry (again) but it's really important to keep track of how much money you should have in your bank account - I would certainly notice if I had an extra £300 in there!

Did you not wonder why you had extra money / where it had come from?

So, yes, unfortunately it is your fault that you didn't have sufficient funds in your account for the payment when it was claimed.

I'm with the others. You've spent the £300 and now Tesco need their £300. If you keep an eye on your accounts, you would have realised that you were £300 up from October until now. It's not a small amount, it's unfortunate that they're asking for it now, but they could have asked for it at any time really. It's not Tesco's fault, they aren't the ones who should be notifying you, you should have called them when it didn't debit.
