That bouche thing looks like something you'd get from Farm Foods or Iceland to me. It is only because it has Heston's name on and is in Waitrose that people are interested. If it was 3 for £5 at Iceland I bet we wouldn't behaving this discussion.

It's not my kind of thing anyway, but I will be interested to hear if people really think it is worth the price once they have scoffed it.

Iceland sell some cracking stuff and I've shopped with them since the days of Bejam - usually at least once a month. That said, I do get a few niggles with them.

I guess I'm just suffering from 'modern laziness', but I expect to be able to park for free close to my food shops. My local Iceland is smack, bang in the middle of a shopping centre, 300 yards away from a lift to an expensive pay-to-use car park. There is no trolley park, so after doing the 'hike', you've got to retrace your steps back to the store to get your quid from the trolley back!

My local Iceland has 5 checkouts but only usually has three open. This results in long queues that block aisle ends and negotiating a wonky trolley round them can be a bit of a challenge.

I don't know if this is common to Iceland stores up and down the Country - but I'd be surprised if they were still in business if it were like it everywhere else.

It's also disappointing that Iceland, who appear to have offered free home delivery nationally way before people like Tesco went online, have not got there act together so you can order online. I'm sure they are missing a major trick there - but I guess they've costed it out and figure they can't do it ?

I did buy a wonderful 'Quick Defrost' Backwell Cheesecake last week, but because it took 20 minutes to get through the checkout it had, sadly, defrosted before I got it anywhere near my car - let alone home! However, I've managed to get another one and it was delicious - as is their Black forest Gateau which will be replacing that twatty Waitrose lump of brown lard which has driven me so mad this year.

To me (as a non Waitrose customer [now for life]) I'm not interested in who makes the buche. I don't care if it's that Heston geezer, I'm not interested in who he is - I just liked the look of it. I would have happily run off to get it if it had been Asda, Tesco, Lidl, Aldi or Happy Shopper. I never bought into the name or Waitrose gig - other than to expect they may actually be experienced and professional enough to have sufficient stock for something they were advertising nationally.

Think of how many Non Waitrose customers, who have gone into their stores after never visiting one before and found they were out of stock of the buche.

You have made your journey, you don't just go in for that, you mooch around. I defy anyone not to buy something whilst in the store.

My first trip where I was unsuccessful in securing a Buche I purchased nothing, my first visit to a Waitrose, I mooched around but purchased nothing.

The trip to the second store where I did manage to get hold of two of the elusive cakes, the only extra purchase was two bags of frozen peas to help keep them frozen on the 50 minute journey back home!!!

The advert worked in that it sold a Buche, but it didn't get a new Waitrose customer in me! Esso made more out of me for all the fuel I used but it was an excuse to drive my new car so who cares :)

I'm curious - if you sold one online, how would you deliver it before it thawed ?

I guess they are all pick up only, but it shows how desperate people are to try this, £200 plus you have to go get it.
