CAB are supposed to be helping with his appeal we did call them 2 weeks ago to say we had received an appeal date The mistake he made when he filled out his claim bk in jan 20011 as he had started bk to work was he said he was ok because he was on a bit of a high ..The reply from DLA was he just needed reassurance

We have just called income support they were very unhelpful and said they would not accept a claim from us as it would be sent back to an esa claim

My daughter is in touch with connexions they helped her last yr get on a course which she did for 12 months they told her the jobcentre should of interviewed her to see if she was entitled to anything as its a case of hardship .. they are seeing what they can do for her to help her into work but they said things are very doubtful as job situation is ridiculous

I have just tried to explain the situation to him with ESA but hes unconvinced its the right way to go

Also my daughter is being classed as a non dependent as she is no longer in education even though she has no money no job and no help

Your daughter needs to look harder for work.

What is she actually doing to find work now? Of age is getting lots of interviews but no job, I think it would be useful for her to get more help with interview skills. Lots of people don't get to the interview stage so her application must be ok.

I have to say I find it odd that a connexions advisor is telling her she is unlikely to get a job!! I thought the idea is to motivate them, not put them off looking for work!!

Stop giving her money, if you are, as that may focus her job hunting too.

No further ideas to try and help, Groovychick, just posting to wish you good luck. I hope you can get some help from somewhere. Keep trying. (((hugs)))
    may your good days grow
  • JUST... an idea, but when does she turn 18? Maybe you can get her a job where you work. You could then work your shift patterns around each other so yr partner has someone with him if needed. Even if she is a few months off, you could get the wheels in motion, so she is good to go when she is 18. xx
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea
  • She could join the Prince's Trust Team programme. It's a 12 week personal development course where she will gain skills to help her into employment. Whilst on the course she would earn a training allowance of approx £50/wk and get her travel fares re-imbursed (this is how is it in Wales, it should be the same in England, but double check!), and you should then hopefully get your CB reinstated.

I'm not sure how far away you are from Norwich, but there is a course starting on 16th Jan. See here for a list of other locations and contact details

she has applied for lots of jobs but after the interviews they tell her she has not got the experience they require. how can she get the experience if no one is willing to give her a go. she has been into shops asking for work, she has wrote letters she has even called so its not like she is sitting on her backside doing nothing... we do not give her money only to get her to job interviews or should i stop that as well so she cant get there

Gingergee she does not turn 18 until june 2012

She is starting to do some voluntary work fostering unwanted pets till they can find a forever home ..

While that's a lovely thing to do, it's not the sort of voluntary work that's going to enhance her CV. Why don't you suggest that she volunteers to work in a charity shop if retail's an area she's interested in?

I agree she would be better off finding voluntary work that is suited to the jobs she is applying for.

She clearly looks the part on paper, even without the experience, so adding some work and a reference should make all the difference.
  • working with animals is what she mainly wants to do she has had 5 months work experience at pets at home and loved it, They did say if a job came up in their store they would let her know a job came up in another store about 6 miles from us she got through to both stages of interviews and out of all them interviewed she was the only one with experience but that didnt help her get the job

If she wants to work with animals, why has she left education without a job to go to and with only basic qualifications? Given your situation, I'm surprised that you've allowed her to do this.
