  • well just called CB apparently it has to be applied for within 3 months of it ending job centre said we had to apply before 22nd of this month so looks like shes back off to job centre tomorrow...

It's you who has to apply for CB, not her.
  • I can't recommend the Welfare Rights Service highly enough.

You should be able to find them on Google or your Council's website. They were wonderful with me and despite being told by DWP that I wasn't eligible for Income Support, I was, and they got it backdated. Same for the Council Tax Benefit.

I'm disabled, so they came out to see me at home. I'm sure in your circumstances they would do the same.

It was me that called the CB they said as i had not applied within 3 months of her leaving education i was not entitled to the extension

OK - I thought that was what she was going back to the Job Centre for.

If you've got to apply by the 22nd of this month (as you mention in post#11), why are you too late to do this on the 15th?

My daughter went to see connexions she has been registered with them since 2009 they got her on a course for 12 months in aug 2010 which ended in august this yr after she left the course she was trying to get herself a job having plenty of interviews.. My partner went with her to jobcentre to see what jobs were available and they spoke to a young persons advisor there .. He told her to go back to connexions which she did now connexions told her the job centre should of done an assesment to see if she was entitled to anything..so connexions got in touch with jobcentre and jobcentre yesterday got in touch with my daughter they told her we had up until 22nd of this month to apply for the extension but CB said job centre are wrong and its 3 months after education ends....she has to now go to job centre because they said if CB said no get a reason and they will try and get her JSA

  • Whereabouts in the country are you, groovychick? (Don't be too specific)
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • Hi,

Not sure if I'm just confused but if your daughter is still 17, she won't be entitled to standard JSA. JC+ usually don't take over responsibility until the young person reaches 18. Went through all of this with my kids when they left FTE. She may be entitled to some 'emergency/crisis' benefit at age 17 however only if she had no other income and you declared that you couldn't provide financially for her - NB: this is not a loan.

Connexions offices usually have a JC+ bod to help with benefits info, etc. It's generally Connexions who have the notes of relevant dates on your daughter's records and it's this that triggers the entitlement extention to ChB and also Child Tax Credit. If you can, make an appointment at Connexions to go with your daughter to try and sort it out as it seems you are getting passed from pillar to post.

Also, really sorry to mention but check your Ts&Cs for late hubby's pension as it looks as though you haven't remarried but are living with your partner - be careful in case they cover this in the terms and conditions.:o

    Good luck
