  • They say money doesn't bring happiness but it certainly gives you more choices!

When times were different we used to be more impulsive, but now a weekend away like that would have to be planned and saved for for a long time. However, the planning, anticipation, and the fact that it's such a rare thing would probably make us appreciate it a lot more.

Ditto! pre-DD we would go on weekends away at a moments notice, now the same thing involves months of saving, getting the animals sorted out, etc etc.

However, this reminds me of a good few years back when our neighbours went on a mini-cruise and OH and I chatted about how fab their lives were...... two weeks later he left her for another woman, so you never know what people's lives are really like.
  • She does it, you start a thread moaning about not being able to do it.

    Sigh.

Sometimes it is nice to go somewhere on a whim. I used to do it a lot when I was younger. Friends of mine and I would be talking about somewhere we'd like to visit and then be there the next day - Amsterdam, Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Brugges etc. - but it is a lot harder now to be that impulsive.

The closest I get to impulsive travelling nowadays is to research places I might like to one day visit and then many months later, when my partner's schedule is in-line with mine and time is allowing just booking a trip and going... but it isn't quite the same.

However, I do think that planning trips has some advantages. You don't arrive somewhere with only a vague idea of what to do and where to go and so you don't waste as much time wandering around.

I wish we could be more impulsive; there's only the 2 of us and no pets to worry about, but OH plays rugby every Saturday from September to April which puts a stop to weekends away at the drop of a hat... even when we have gone away on an impulsive trip away the furthest we got was Blackpool! :rotfl:

I'd love to just hop on a plane to another country for a few days, but I'm too much of a worrier to land in a foreign country with no idea where I'm staying or how I'm going to get there! :o
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Sambucus chill, it is not moaning it is purely and observation and a tadge envy;)

I'm chilled; I have a camper and regularly go on my hols with little notice.

Do you have to document every observation in life?

Shall I just leave you to your bad day and come back when you are happier, whatever is happening to you is not my fault, honest:)

    I'm perfectly happy thanks.

It's just so....tedious. And dull. Hence the sigh.

Oh bless then off you go to something of more intellect and passionate discussion see if you can run them down or bully them as you freely seem to want to do me off this site, shall I just sign off to make your day? No need you can just ignore me:D

We could exchange posts all evening but the more adult thing for us is to ignore, ignore, ignore and the very merriest of xmas to you:D

    Yawns. Whatever.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • I think a lot of it depends on your outlook on life. I am very impulsive, but I also hate being caught out. If I haven't planned properly, I'm at risk of being royally ripped off because I didn't check deals, places to stay etc. Perhaps your friend is not so good with money but you are?
I have friends whose lives on the outside appear their life is perfect, but we all know that is never the case! If you envy your friend, have you ever tried being a little more impulsive to see what it brings you? :)
