They aren't turning to prostitution to pay the fees (if they are at all). They're turning to prostitution to fund their beer, fags, pizza, laptops, 42" TVs, hair extensions, designer gear etc. etc. All that stuff you HAVE to have if you're 19 these days.

  • There is a reason sex workers get paid a lot, sleeping with greasy desperate men for money is a vile job that kills a bit of your soul off each time you do it. .

I feel the same way about IT support sometimes.

If you substitute the word shelf-stacking for prostitution, then your post continues to make sense - the difference is that 19-year-olds actually enjoy sex, especially if they are getting £100 an hour, but shelf-stacking sucks

What, even with a fat, balding, psoriasis covered, cheesy nobbed, ageing old man with halitosis?

I can't imagine that many clients are 19 year old versions of Brad Pitt.

It only takes half an hour, and most Tesco customers are like that anyway - what's the difference?

If a young attractive slim lady wants to turn her hand and mouth to pleasing men then what's the big deal?

    It's called girl-power

    I can't argue with that.
  • It's a wind up article. I read something a while ago that went on about how prostitution is a dying career because, well, the product that these girls are trying to sell on a street corner is the same thing you can get for the price of a few WKDs down the local night club. If you want some extra marital activity, you can get that easily as well for free, there are even websites set up specifically for bored people to do that for free.

Poor old NUS. Are trying to shock people, but, i doubt it's worked. Funny how the inane story has been one of the most read on the BBC website all day though. Must have paid some poor students to sit there all day clicking the link.
  • I think that they should introduce degrees, and perhaps A levels in whoring, it would provide useful vocational training for the next generation......
  • Ultimately (having only read page one of this thread) no student is being forced into anything.

IF a student is having problems financially they have a CHOICE. Earn some money in an acceptable way (to them - which may include this course of action) OR comeout of education and get a full time job (or even rely on benefits - which wont let you starve despite the levels).

I dont see the government saying a student MUST remain in education and MUST earn more money dy performing certain actions.
