Student fees driving women into prostitution

There is a reason sex workers get paid a lot, sleeping with greasy desperate men for money is a vile job that kills a bit of your soul off each time you do it. Personally I'd rather stack the shelves.
There was a good book a few years back that discussed the economics of prostitution. It's a vile job but that's not why it's highly paid - it's supply and demand. There aren't enough prostitutes to create a competitive market. How many little girls dream of getting into the sordid world of prostitution.
In reality, as you say, prostitution is a last resort and the women will be vulnerable and likely have drug problems too. The story in the OP will be made up - for a start her 'colleagues' will not allow her on their patch and secondly, when push comes to shove, who can compete with someone on price when they can't see past the next fix?0 -
Well, the vileness is also a reason why there isn't much supply.
Apparently prostitution isn't actually illegal, although running a brothel or soliciting is.0 -

Fack me, there is an upside to unemployment and wage deflation through immigration. Now, if they can just convince them that the minimum wage is fair price for their trade.0 -

I'm not sure. I thought the laws had changed to focus on the criminality of the purchaser of sex (male) rather than the supplier of sex (female). It's in the news where I live - there's a red light area and it seems that the police and residents can do little about the disruption apart from hand out the odd ASBO.0 -
It's out of season and 10 hours a day spent in a field can get in the way of academic study somewhat.
Winter vegetables then, they must be in season. I should imagine spending nights standing out in the cold evening air followed by performing sexual acts on punters can get in the way of your studies somewhat.0 -

You sound like you're talking from experience.
Anyhow, what happened to that bloke who used to go to lady marmalade parties - he knew the market well!MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -

A brothel as a business is illegal.
Apparently the law thinks that 2 or more women living in a residential premises counts as a brothel. A woman on her own is allowed to charge men for sex and the men are allowed to pay for it, though I'm not clear what the rules are regarding advertising.
The upshot of all this is that the girls are terribly vulnerable because if they end up with a nutter they might have to deal with him alone.0 -

Isn't that what a pimp is for? Just like a landlord really in a roundabout way...0
