Las Vegas Excalibur hotel

I have just spent an hour and a half in the travel agents and booked a summer holiday, first for 3 years. Its 5 days in Vegas and 5 in Miami. Imagine my horror when rushing to this site to find the hotel I have just booked, described as 'crap'.
Someone please reassure me that the Excalibur is OK.
Also is it better to book tours in UK before you go?

Don't know what to think now. Such mixed reviews, thank you for passing them on. At least forewarned is forearmed!
I am going in July, when are you going?0 -
Howdy,
Don't worry, we went to Vegas for a week last May, We stayed in the Luxor (the one next door, they are linked so you can walk from one to the other)
but went to your hotel several times, and did some shopping there, it was always clean and the staff always friendly and to be honest the whole point of Vegas is that you don't spend much time in your room!
From what i saw with the exception of the few "up market" hotels they are all mostly the same, clean and friendly and trying to get you to gamble away all your money, so don't worry and start looking forward to your holiday

oh forgot to say that before we went i looked at reviews too, from what i can tell the reviews can be because people seem to think they will be treated like film stars, i also saw a LOT of people complain about the prices of eating in the casino's but there is a HUGE amount of choice if you are willing to get of your bum and leave the hotels! if you do want to eat in the hotel i suggest the lovely buffets (about $20-30 per adult) but you will get even better value for money downtown on freemont street, enjoy

I'm sure it's fine, but it's not the most luxurious hotel on the strip.0

for sure, but is not a dump by any stretch of the imagination. it has just got some very tough competition.
it,s location is great and it is clean and fun . . would not worry you will have a great stay if you have never been to Vegas. i may very well be staying there myself in june if i can sort my flights

You beat me to it , just what I was going to say! Mmmmmmmm , Krispy Kremes
I've stayed at the Excailbur and it was fine. The only problem we had was when we arrived , the room we were given had no view , just a wall , so we asked for a better room and were given one with a good view.Same old same old since 20080 -

Good Grand Canyon helicopter tours you probably won,t save much either way .. expect to pay £150- £200 per person , (more if you included pony treking or extras). $ is very weak at the moment but might strengten before you go. may seem expensive but take it from someone who has done one , worth every penny!!!!!!
here is a helpful thread with links inside

anything else ( shows in particular) i would wait till you arriveBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Hi Miss-spent,
Could I just ask where you will be staying in Miami? I hope it will be in the South Beach region as that seems to be the 'action zone' and of course the beach. We have just come back from Miami (DownTown) and were in the wrong location altogether for us. However, here is the warning. No matter how you are tempted to buy anything from the 'electronics outlets' on Lincoln Road, please do not be taken for a ride by the silver tongued salesmen. They are devious people and unlike the UK they do not give refunds, charge a horrendous 'restockingfee' and evenutally want to sell you something more expensive than you have already paid. I am telling you this because we have had an unpleasant experience which really spoiled our 4 days there. Having said that, the art deco buildings are lovely, the celebrity waterfront homes are amazing and theres plenty of shopping malls to go to where you won't be ripped off. Hope the $ stays at nearly two to the £ for you. Regards - sally0 -
Relax we stayed at the Excalibur in 2004 when we got married the rooms are really good plenty of space, very clean and it is a really good hotel especially for the price we would defo stay there again.
It's also adeally situated, better that being in downtown Vegas which is a bit cheap like.
