Electric screwdrivers lol A total waste of time IMO. I made the mistake of purchasing one and don't use it.

A lot better is one of these. The battery never goes flat and they are as quick or even quicker than any electric screwdriver. I have two older models that were handed down to me, one large, about 16.5" and the other smaller at around 13" both made by Stanley.

Crikey my dad had one of those!!!! Need to move with the times now and go with the battery model!!:rotfl:

Thanks everyone the one I was looking at on Amazon is indeed the Bosch IXO
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-Cordless-Lithium-Ion-Screwdriver-Easy-Reach/dp/B0038M1X9O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1323884978&sr=8-3
Unfortunately it's out of stock I emailed Amazon and they can't tell me when or even if it will ever be in stock :(
If anyone can find it at a similar price at a reputable place let me know, the Xmas clock is ticking but I can't find it at such a good price anywhere else, money saving scrooge that I am, well wouldn't be on here otherwise!!
The one without the attachments is in stock, but I think the old man would be happier with "attachments"!

Have you checked Argos, the link posted above has it with attachments for £33.98

also the B & Q one posted in the same post is £30 with all the attachments

It's not a case of moving with the times when so called "upgrades" are nothing of the kind. People should get it into their heads that just because something is modern, doesn't mean it is in any way better because in many cases it won't be. Do you really think that your battery screwdriver will still be functional in 20 to 30 years time? I highly doubt it because they are not designed to last like stuff used to be, my screwdrivers are a testament to that. Only an occasional drop of oil is the only thing needed. No having batteries go flat mid way through a job.:rotfl::T

I have a battery powered screwdriver and it is no improvement on the pump action screwdrivers I have, in fact it is in no way better, only having downsides in my experience. I don't use it and wish I had not wasted money on it because the pump actions are far better and more usable.

The smaller one is a lot like this but that one is a cheaper make.

That's completely untrue... there is an abundance of videos on YouTube which compare the speed... I'm yet to see one where the ratchet driver wins.

Having said that... I do love those ratchet ones and I've been tempted to buy one

OP... it's not as cheap (£39.95), but you can get them here. They charge £3.50 for delivery.

Axminster also do one, it's the same price and delivery is £4.95... but if you bump the order up to £50, you'll get free delivery. You could buy him some other bits and bobs that he needs.... I'd assume they'll combine shipping, but you should check... link

Still think if you havent got a drill, the £35 (amazon) Bosh Drill/Driver is a better bet.

I think the OP is looking for her OH xmas pressie and he wants it for general DIY.

Someone pointed me towards those impact drivers and I want one, but they are expensive.

An impact driver is a totally different tool to a screwdriver, rachet, hand or electric. An impact driver is designed to remove stubborn screws or those where the slot has been damaged which makes a convential screwdriver useless.
Yes, I usually tell it as I see it and respond where I see the need, but never are my comments ment to be taken personally.

The Bosch screwdriver mentioned above is in stock at Amazon, but less the angle adapter.
