I'm still annoyed that I've never got one. I park at my local Asda when I need to go into town. We do all our grocery shopping at Asda, so I consider myself a customer. Still to get one.
Though I did see someone else get one, and went up to speak to them after the "warden" went away. I gave them my email address and managed to educate them. They offered me a small reward, which I declined but suggested they gave it to charity which they did.
And my brother-in-law got one at a motorway service station because his tyre burst and he had to wait for the AA. They offered to reduce it to £20 if he sent them a receipt from buying something there! Needless to say, he sent them sweet FAOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Be careful some places may clamp you, which will be inconvenient if you want your car back in a hurry!
Otherwise if you have plenty of time you could try a motorway service station, though you need to be there for over two hours!

Regarding the above 2 posts, you can safely ignore any signage threatening to clamp as this is illegal and has been since August 2010 on private land, see link below

I've had tickets from Excel and Parking Eye (2). I tried to get one from CMS (I think) at Robin Park in Wigan, where there are signs saying that "you will be fined" if you park there on a match day. I parked there during a football match, and got nothing. Very disappointed.0

Sorry but why bother,I think your trying harder to get 1 than they will sending their fake letters to you.if you have that much spare time why don't you just warn people of these scammers instead, that will lose them more money if people understand the scam, than you ignoring the ticket they give you0

Just go on a moterway service station anc chill for over 2 hours then your dream will come true. :rotfl:
I think this is the best way. There are only a couple of supermarkets around here with signs up saying the car parks are controlled, however I've never actually seen any parking officers in any of them. The one store I know of which actually has pay and display (because it's in the city centre and people would just use their car park instead of paying for council ones when shopping in town) does have officers, however every time I park in there I see them yet I never pay and never get fined. I took my mother shopping once and forgot to display her blue badge when parking in a disabled bay, and still didn't get a ticket.
The one time I did get a non-council PCN was when I parked in Exeter services, although that was a genuine mistake as I didn't realise there was only a 2 hour free period. It was quite funny when I got the letter, as it mentioned the max 2 hours free stay and directly below it said that I was in there for 8 and a half hours :rotfl:
Unfortunately they only sent me 3 letters (the first 2 were identical, the third was a bit more threatening) but I never paid and never heard from them after that. I went into Exeter services another 2 times with the same car, one time I was even towing an 8 foot trailer and I parked across 4 spaces

so do you just tell the clamp that it's there illegally and it'll fall off?
If it was illegal and you get your car clamped, you've still got a car you can't drive because it's got a bloody big clamp on it.0 -

Thats because they mostly go around in the supermarkets own hi-vis coats and look like trolley staff.
Having worked in both council and private parking I can spot them a mile off. Some of them though use ANPR cameras mounted on poles. Some of the cameras are so small you can't even see them when intentionally looking for them. You need to be right up close to see them.
UKPC operate this system and at many supermarket checkouts customer service desk they'll have a touch screen for visitors to enter their registration (eg contractors etc) which is prone to crashing every couple of minutes.0
