It really was only couple of hendred yards I broke down within sight of my front door.
Didn't notice anything other than the kangaroo non reving and sick feeling in my stomach.
Will say it was towed in any case.
We have receipt for the car. Its a small garage but their website clearly states that all sales have 2 month warranty to cover " any faults" lets just hope they are true to their word.
Was no where near the limit when it happened although it was just after a gear change.0 -
fyi...
seems its the turbo, best case scenario its the pipe going into the turbo that has burst worst case its the turbo it self.
It's on the way tot he garage and they have agreed to fix it :-)0 -
now thats good news, and a garage as good as their word are worth a mention IMHO.0

Indeed credit where credit id sue I had worried unnecessarily.
The problem was simply a clip that sequred the pipe going into the turbo.
Hard to beleive that such a simple component could make the car completely undriveable?
Apparently the garage sorted it on 30 secs flat.0 -

said it could have been a clip, ive seen a few pop off after a few years of not tightening them down reguarly.
glad it was nothing serious, but do note the water pumps, have a check when the last time the timing belt was carried out, and see if the water pump was done at the same time, if not perhaps you should considder doing it as a matter of course to prevent that horrible plastic impeller falling to bits in the engine.0 -
You did say it might only be a clip didn't think I was that lucky though.
Apparently clip was put on backwards? Probably at the last service!
Car has only done 67k miles timing belt is due at 80k so prolly still a little early?
I will do the water pump at the same time.0 -

Not really. Remember that depending on the cars history its total engine revolutions may of been more than enough to have done 80K. It might of been used as a town car most of its life in lower gears so the engine will still have done more work than you realise compared to an engine in a car thats spent most of its life on the motorway in top gear.
It'll probably be alright but you may want to consider getting it done within the next 5k.0 -

I had the same thing happen on a petrol turbo, after I'd fitted my own intercooler. Luckliy I could fix it at the roadside with a spanner.0 -
Had 75k in my head, I always do it a bit early.
However given I hardly do 5k miles a year its a good two years away.
Car looks pretty tidy I don't think its been driven hard and it has a good VW service history. So it seems its been looked after only 1 previous owner too.0
