Scrap or sell car ??
i have a 2000 fiesta 1.3 5 door finesse, 71k miles, mot till Feb 2012
I think it needs a new exhaust incl the cat, the clutch judders at times when pulling away, and sometimes the starter motor jams and makes an aweful noise, the engine itself run fine. Bodywork is fine and rust free with one small dent on roof.
I really wouldnt sell withiut telling the buyer these faults, but i am wondering if its worth selling anyway !!
I really dont think its worth alot , so is it best to scrap it , i am being offered £130 scrap !!
Is scrap the best thing for it ?

Are you buying another car when you get rid of this one? If so take it as part exchange, depending on how much you spend on your new car you will get more than £130 for it from a garage.0

They will only add on the discount they would otherwise have given you on the car to the price of your trade in. In fact, with a car like this they will be aiming to have it standing them £0 so that its worth their while taking it to the scrappers.0 -
I know a couple of people have scrapped older cars rather than go through the hassle of selling them for only a fraction more than the scrap value. One took the battery out and sold that separately for scrap. Not only do you avoid any advertising cost, but you can also claim back any road tax already paid for when the car goes. In both cases, the scrap merchant collected the cars with a trailer - one wasn't even a runner, but was winched onto the trailer.

You'd be a mug to scrap it when it will fetch plenty more for sale on eBay with all the niggles listed.0

Put it on ebay and describe on the good things 'running well, starts first time, has been reliable', etc, then list out the issues.
Take a good few pics and put a reserve of £130 on it.0 -
wow such a mixture of ideas there

I am leaning towards the scrap it though , due to far less hassle ,
Also having had a look on ebay there are similar cars with a "buy it now" for like £299 that didnt sell !!0 -
Polish it up, hoover it out, take decent pics and slap it on ebay with a £140 reserve. Include an honest description.
Keeps a decent car on the roads, it could be a god send to a cash strapped student or single mum (who's good with spanners!)0 -
I'm keeping my '96 reg car. Im not scrapping that and mine has more faults done twice as many miles and has no MOT.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
