bird flu hits bernard mathews turkeys...what do you think?

I must admit that the whole Bernard Matthews range has always been very unattractive to me because of the wretched conditions, but I have bought it on occasions as the kids like it and have had it at friend's houses and the like. However I will not buy it now as I seem to remember that there was no risk from eating BSE infected meat...... However I won't bin anything I have in at the moment because anything in the system now will be fine. I have heard though, that free range flocks are much more at risk from bird flu and in countries where it has hit they have made farmers bring flocks indoors until the threat is passed.Jane

i',, be buying it because there might be a shortage for week or two......
i have one chicken left so now hubby is going to make a large rabbit run type hutch for it ...as at the mo.... she gets out of her encloser and wounders round the waste land by us....
i had some funny looks earlier from the neighbour....
but then on saying that she alllways gives me funny looks...lol.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
I don't buy Bernard Matthews stuff anyway, but whilst I will be buying chicken and turkey - I usually get it from the market.
TBH - after the first 30 minutes of news when that was ALL they were talking about, I switched off. Another case of scare-mongering by the news people, if you ask me. I mean, some scientist bloke was saying that we've had it twice recently anyway - last one in the 1990's, but I don't remember that and we didn't all "drop off our perches" (pun intended

even though bernard mathews got his own brand....
i should imagine that a lot of the turkey meat and products in the supermarkets comes from him.....
as i think he is the largest producer in the uk.....
i wounder if he can claim off his insurance for this..... or is it classed as an act of god......
as they put it in insurance terms.......
and also is bernard mathew going to pay for all this or are the government going to pay for it all ?
just another discussion point.. on this...Work to live= not live to work0 -
I certainly wouldn't bin any turkey you already have or buy in the future. I am sure long before it reaches the foodchain it has been checked out, See Kethry's post.
I do think it could be that certain suppliers will use this as a reason to hike prices though!
Didn't know freecycle did cats! He is gorgeous!

edit: Remember the swan we had up here with Asian flu? Seemingly the coverage on the news about that has increased tourist numbers and folk wanting to buy in the area because it is such a quaint East Neuk Fife fishing village. So, despite bad publicity some good has come there.
Haven't bought BM products for about 20 years and probably wouldn't ever think of buying in the future - not related to today's news. (Now feel guilty about BM turkey burgers I used to feed the kids about 20 or so years ago!) There are so many other bargains out there I just go with the flow and largely what is yellow stickered.0 -
I think the best thing to do is PANIC!!!!
Remove all turkey products from your house and never buy them again, they're all infected....INFECTED I SAY.
My wheelie bin is a bustin as we speak, along with the sausages, steaks and twizzlers, I've chucked in the box of Christmas left-over TURKEYish Delight and a suede jacket I bought in TURKEY too. I really had to press down to get the 8 pillows and a king-sized duevet in off the bed (contain feathers).
No< I'm taking no risks - we're having shellfish tonight:DLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

I don`t like BM meat and I don`t like the way they keep their turkeys so I never buy BM. Seems strange that the virus got into the turkey shed at all.
Panic not!!0
