Would never buy anything from Bernard Matthews in a month of Sunday's and I know a lot of people who feel the same.
Those birds are kept in appalling conditions....it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

I agree but I strongly suspect that other poultry imported from abroad are reared in even worse conditions.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

Absolutely.
I have noticed on a few boxes of frozen processed chicken items in different stores 'produced in Thailand.' Don't fancy those either!...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

the most likely contamination is from a worker not observing all the hygiene rules and walking in something on their boots - otherwise the bio-defences are very good in these units - although the whole outfit is not pleasant for the birds. Bird flu is very contagious amongst birds and once it gets into a unit then it's going to spread very quickly as shown here - the irony is that the other 158,000 birds were probably uninfected and perfectly healthy.Toxic_Lemon wrote:I think it disturbing that the experts are puzzled as to how the turkeys have become infected because they are all kept in a controlled vaccuum with flitered air (something like that, anyway).
Who wants to eat turkey bred like that?
This is the most likely time of year for us to get infected birds because of the migration so it's likely to all die down again very quickly.
On the up side though it might be the end of turkey twizzlers

Anyone buying ready chicken meals or frozen chicken from Iceland, chinese restaurant or takeaway food will have been eating meat imported from the Far East for years. So dont fret.NSD 0/150
