My OH is one of those who can never get the tail end of his car in the space on first go and usually leaves it that way. He would reverse into every space perfectly, but has got used to me nagging him that it makes it too difficult to access the boot of the car.
If you hadn't nagged him to park right next to the shop entrance (in the car damage danger zone), you'd have lots of room to move around and it wouldn't be a problem
First and last time I listened that "advice" from my ex, an old duffer in a big Toyota tried to nose first park next to me, misjudged the "swing" and smashed into my car

nah, never close to the door, those are usually for parent and child and disabled people. Only one supermarket in this town, gets rather busy, you can park in a space where there are no cars on either side of you and come out a few mins later with no room to get trolley between cars.
But ouch for you. But tbh, same kind of thing could have happened with him reversing in or out. Sounds just like bad driving
