To DLA or not to DLA.

the dla higher rate mobility is for being unable to walk because of both legs amputated or severe pain, or due to breathlessness etc.
if you can walk to the supermarket and back then you wont qualify for a car on the mobility scheme.
i cant imagine any other reason for wanting a mobility car . i cant even drive mine anymore and have to depend on being taken out when my OH can take me.
im not even in the support group, even though i cant walk more than 30 metres without severe pain. This ESA is so inconsistant it makes my blood boil. next year when they bring in the PIP there are ging to be a lot of us losing our mobility cars from what ive heard because the goverment are going to assess us differently.
if you have internet have you thought about using skype to call the kids, ? if you have a web cam you can see them while you chat!
good luck anyway0 -

There is also a mental health descriptor for DLA HRM.0 -
do you think that would apply to the OP who walks to and from the supermarket unsupervised?
i would imagine that it is harder to get hrm for mental health problems than for mobility problems, so given the OP manages to do those things, that would surely show they are safe to go out on their own?
interesting one !!!0 -

No, I do not - I stated that in my previous post.0 -
Thx again everyone, DLA mobility issues wouldn't apply to me as you say and in fact on my ESA 50 I ticked ok for the safety when out/aware of hazards descriptor, getting to the supermarket isn't such a problem esp when driving, shopping inside though moreso, I'm easily aggravated in crowded areas, esp over seemingly trivial things such as seeing overweight people in the confectionery aisle and I try to get in and out as quickly as possible.
Upgrading my talk talk package from essentials to anytime is a possibility, it would also stop the sales calls but using a webcam isn't really for me and you'd understand that if you saw the Wild Man of Borneo looking back at you.
I think overall if I go for DLA it would be the hrc element that would best apply and that would easily cover a decent motor vehicle.0 -
Really? High rate care? So you can't shower/go to the toilet/get dressed/cook for yourself or anything but you can live on your own, go out when you want and you're not a danger.
Tell me what's this magical new high rate care component criteria that I've not heard about?0 -
GJ, I'm afraid you clearly don't understand the m/h descriptors very well and how they would apply, fortunately I do, that in fact is why I've never had to appeal following an IB or ESA medical decision.
Please do not take my comment about overweight people personally if that applies to you.0 -
I'm dangerously underweight actually, finding eating very difficult at the moment.
And I also filled out DLA claims for CAB Scotland for a good while. I know DLA inside out and back to front, unless you've neglected to mention being a danger to yourself then you're not suitable for high rate care.0 -
GJ, I'm sorry to hear about your eating problems. I hear what you are saying about being a former CAB adviser but I would caution you about making assumptions/drawing conclusions from the limited amount of information you have gleaned about me from this forum. If you were more familiar with both myself and my circumstances I can assure you that you would be left in no doubt as to perilous nature of my day to day life. You have assumed that because I have made a reference to visiting a supermarket (and god forbid even walking there on occasion), I am obviously a male in the prime of life who probably in your opinion shouldn't even be on ESA let alone countenancing any idea of DLA.
When I first detected your annoyance with me over the hrc element I suspected for a moment that you may have been involved in some capacity with the benefits system, perhaps an ex ATOS 'medic', isn't it easy to reach the wrong conclusions when online!0 -
OP ... if you are so certain that you meet the DLA criteris, and you obviously are well versed in the descriptors and that you meet them ...
why are you so filled with dread about the possibility of needing to appeal?
surely an award letter is just a foregone conclusion....0
