Dongles - are they worth it?

Options
Due to move into my own place at the end of this month, and looking at internet options. I currently have sky & thought about upgrading to their broadband/phone package but installation costs are off putting :undecided

Just wondered if a dongle was worth my while? I have checked coverage and seem to be ok for all networks? Cant decide what to do, so would be grateful for experiences please?

I have one for travel, expensive compared to a land line installation though. Don't even thing of downloading much data.

Mine is on 3 and I have pretty much got coverage wherever I have gone - even when my iPhone on O2 shows no signal at all.

Ive got a 3 mifi e586 their newest high speed mifi device.

I regularly get 10mbs on it, a lot better than even the fastest landline based service
    at the local exchange.

15gb usage which is fine for my modest needs for £15pm, no line rental install charges
when you move etc, a pain in the arris for renters, can take it anywhere to have a wifi
signal, great bits of kit IMO

if you need a 'landline' number then get a USB phone and a free voip number from the
    likes of sipgate etc

just done a speedtest, just shy of 11mbs, and its like that day in day out

You can get SIM-only deals from GiffGaff with bundles (deals) that include unlimited internet. Don't know if these are relevant to mobile dongles though.

Giffgaff have just started to offer data bundles but for the prices they charge 3 is way better.

So what's the difference between a Data Plan and 'Unlimited Web' on a Phone Plan?
  • On a slightly different point, can anyone recommend a dongle to use with a Macbook running OS X "Snow Leopard"? The ones I looked at (admittedly not very recently) all seemed to require Windows which I left behind a long time ago.

The data plans are specifically "to access the internet from any 3G-enabled device, including an iPad or any other Tablet PC, laptop, mobile internet dongle or using your smartphones tethering feature. Tethering will work with all smartphones except for iPhones".

The terms for the phone plans are "for personal mobile use only".

They will all run, but you need to create a manual connection . My mrs has Snow and lion on myn
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
