I got one of these http://www.bakersandlarners.co.uk/images/gardman-strawberry-planter.jpg from ebay for £8 then ordered the free plants mentioned above, they're growing really well at the moment despite a bit of frost recently.0

im waiting for my free strawberry plants too, and haven't bought a pot yet. are the pots like that (www.bakersandlarners.co.uk/im...ry-planter.jpg) to densely pack plants in a smaller area, why not just pland them individually in small pots, or is it to keep them off the wet floor as mentioned?Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000

I've just bought a big plant pot, 5l of Miracle Grow, tomato feed and a 3 pack Ostara strawberry from Wilkos.
I've literally just finished putting all the compost into the now full pot, gave it a good watering, then planted my plants (basically just little plants with roots) close to the edge.
I've been advised to feed it with tomato feed, but not until after 2-3 weeks. So I think the first Monday in May will be it's first feed, and weekly from then on, whilst ensuring the soil doesn't go dry.
I'm now looking for tips from other MSEs, to ensure I can get the most from these. I already know to cover the pot in net, to stop the birds feeding at my expense.:D
Thanks in advance!Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -

 Grrr.... The Fight against the Bugs has started!!
I have some Strawberry Plants growing in a tyre.... they are New Plants... From the Mr Fothergills Freebie offer. I inspected them today as they are already starting to flower but instead of a new flower I noticed a Very bright White Fly on one of the leaves. I Squashed it but then I spotted what looked like White Flys flying around above the Plant and my veggie Patch ... I'm worried that they will start spreading to my Veg which are planted close by?
Shall I use a Soapy Water Spray to get rid of them?

I've planted my strawberry bed, what's the best alternative to straw to put round them to keep the fruit off the soil and away from the slugs?0
