Netting if you've got a £1 shop the ones near me do that at this time of year.

Managed to get a strawberry planter for just under £10 in Tesco a few weeks back, downside ordered plants off ebay and they were dying when I got them, no green leaves, but I've planted them anyway and some green leaves starting to appear :) downside is we're on holiday in 2 weeks time for 5 days and got noone to water them for me, hope we get overnight rain or something then as I have planted a lot of things this year and don't want them dying off :(
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

Well I made my own strawb tower by stacking pots inside each other and using bricks to stand the inner ones on iyswim.

Look out for plants in Lidl or Aldi and plant them up as soon as you get them. You might want to protect them a bit from the worst of the weather at first - they are completely hardy but if they've come from a warm shop it may be too much of a shock to go straight out
You'll get your crop in July normally but once you've got the bug you can look for earlier and later varieties to extend the season and get some alpine strawberries that keep going til the frosts

  • Hi there,
Also if you go to the Gardeners World website and click on to offers you can get 10 strawberry plants for postage, mine arrived the other day and I only just remembered what they were, it's my first time with a strawberry pot, my mum kindly bought mine, good luck.

You might like to consider hanging baskets for your strawberries too as these have the advantage of looking nice (with the little flowers and, hopefully, strawberries, trailling over the side) but also gets over the problems of a) strawberries rotting on wet ground if we have another wet summer and b) anything else getting to eat your strawberries at ground level before you do - eg rodents, small children or greedy dogs!

Do you grow them on windowsills in the window box?

I'd like to try growing some in my window box this year.
Any suggestions onwhere to get a plant from?
or which types of plants to use.
