Terrified to take a shower/bath in this cold weather, any workaround?

Options
My shower uses so much water I took to using 'navy showers'. In this weather it is a terrifying prospect.

My mum suggested I take shallow baths instead as it would heat me more which is a bit better but that doesnt help much.

I tried getting an extra large towel to cover me in and out but its just a horrible feeling transitioning through the cold each time getting in and out.

I am so broke right now.

Can anyone think of a workaround to allow me to keep warm getting in and out of the bath?

  • Heat towel(s) in tumble dryer, in front of fire/on radiator, make a hot water bottle to heat towel?

Or dry yourself quickly and blast a hairdryer for a couple of minutes down your pants/vest/dressing gown/jumper/hoodie/socks to warm your body?

Don't know your circumstances/facilites but these may help.

(In desparation just have wash using boiling water from kettle plus add cold water to make it bearable)

I turn the central heating on 10-15mins before I have a shower/bath and shut the bath door. I have no problems then.

Also put the clothes/towel on the heater so when you get out they are nice and warm. double effect

    I just freeze ...lol
I have to use the site shower which means a trip across a muddy field and a shower in a block with no heating etc..I find to be honest that nothing helps but being quick and drying properly.

If you can have the heating on then do that or buy a heater that you can put into the bathroom before taking a bath..heat the towel etc and have a hot drink ready.

Go to the local swimming baths and use their showers.

lol i guess im not as bad off as you so shoudlnt complain. :D

Ye well i have heating in the house but not in the bathroom or showers.

there does seem to be a heater on the towel rails but never tried using them.

as i said im really broke so trying to scrimp as much as i can but i hate being cold so much. i only just began using heating these past day or two since its really digging into winter now. before i was using hot water bottles but they just arent cutting it now.

at least my mum gave me some money to tide me over for heating. I been wokring on my home business but its failing badly :(.

I second the wrapping your towel in a hot water bottle idea, and your jimjams too, you've then got the HW bottles to take straight to bed or snuggle up with after.

Just take a proper bath (enough water to almost cover your body) rather than a shallow one. The difference in price isn't that much As long as the water is really hot you won't get cold. I bathed with the window open when it was -10C last year and wasn't cold getting in or out.
  • showers are supposed to be cheaper than baths so I don't understand why yours uses so much water!
Can I ask how often you shower?
Nothing wrong with a top and tail wash in the sink maybe every other day then you could have a shower in between.
A quick rub down with a towel then bung on a dressing gown and then have a hot drink.
    best wishes

If it is a power shower it would use a great deal more water then a normal shower

Nothing better, love the feeling of sweating your that hot with a freezing cold breeze on your face.

Yeah bite the bullet if your that cold its surely worth paying the extra few p!? Never have this problem but i have a bath at night dunno if thats frowned upon for hygiene reasons or whatever but hate running around fafffing with running a bath at 5.30 and its almost always much colder then and youve normally just go out of your warm bed which makes you feel the cold more.
