ITV and inappropriate adverts

As i understand Ofcom have announced a Ban on junk food advertising from the end of January when the targeted audience is children.
So today i settle down with my 9 year old to watch all the childrens programmes as it is the first Saturday of Febuary and to my amazement the line up of adverts included McDonalds, A new type of cereal from cocopops (yummy all covered in choclate) and a frosties advert surely these are inappropriate adverts or am i wrong?.
I will be ringing Ofcom on Monday what do you think they will say?.
The news article is here that explains http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6154600.stm.

Err that was the idea ...

alas McDonald's sell salads - so they avoided the ban

there was uproar about this at the time - I seem to remember

not sure how true the above is - but I did read it recently that McD's and others avoided it as they weren't 'junk' food

but anyway - it's going to be fazed in to 2008 so it didn't happen over night

One silly side effect of this ban is that cheese has been classified as a junk food. Our local TV news had an interview with a maker of very high quality Stilton cheese saying they cannot advertise on TV till after 9pm.

I hate the adverts for sanitary protection, vaginal thrush, piles and the one where the child is on the loo yelling about no air freshener........they always appear at meal times.

    Toooooooooo much information, I think.

I also agree that all ads for junk foods should be banned around kids.

In fact, they should be banned, full stop. :(

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

I think it's all gone a bit weird, I can't ever remember pesting my parents for something that was advertised on the TV when I was little. Adverts were there for loo breaks, making drinks or talking between the program, something to be ignored completely.

Complaints about adverts should be directed to the Advertising Standards Agency rather than Ofcom.

Lol just as I was reading this the advert with the kid on the loo appeared on tv. It must be the best advert at dissuading me to buy something. Badly acted, voice-overed and downright freaky !

  • I don't like that advert for that new barbie with the doggie that poops. It comes with it's own poop scoop and shows the little turds being picked up. gross.
Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

And if you have got Sky+ or a Freeview PVR you can skip through the adverts . An even better idea.
