Loophole to get a free credit rating discussion area

  • Am curious to find my rating, which I suspect is good, given the bank keeps increasing the amount i can potentially borrow on my C card, but am worried about having too many credit checks on my files as it were as we hope to apply for a mortgage.... How many checks can you get away with in a perdiod of say 3 months? As we hope to apply for a mortgage by then.

    This is what I got!!!!!
We’re very sorry, but we are unable to complete your membership using our online process.
There are a number of reasons why this might have happened – our credit reference agency we use for this process, Equifax, might not have held enough information on you, or if you’ve changed address recently, the information might not be up to date, or you might simply have answered too many questions wrongly.

And you only get one go too!!

    Rats, rats, rats!

    Hello,

I got my credit file for free using creditexpert.co.uk - you sign up for their 30 day free trial, have a gander at your file - supplied by Experian, then make sure you unsubscribe in order to incur no costs to you.

This does not give you a score sadly, but tells you what sort of info they have on you (Electoral Roll, linked addresses, previous searches), explains the impact of this, and what to do about it.

I believe (though I may be wrong) that these sort of searches remain on your file, but that prospective lenders can not see them, which should reduce the negative impact on your overall 'score'. When I got my file from Equifax, I was scored 'fair' because (amongst other things) I had had 2 searches in 6 months.

    HTH,

    Luis.

Does anyone have any idea what the maximum is for the credit rating? I got 482, and I thought the maximum was 500 so was pretty chuffed until I saw that people are getting more than 500. The example on the Equifax site makes it look like the top is 500, but clearly it is not.
  • 561 -beaten by a woman. Who said the civil service was safe? They must have heard about the 12,000 redundancies in HMRC!!

    Martin,
No doubt you will see I already posted this loophole either yesterday or Tuesday.
  • This is excellent.

Takes two minutes and will give you your exact credit score from Equifax.

This is all you need to know, if you score over 400 any kind of credit application should be easy - over 475 and you are an excellent credit risk.

Could also be useful because you could discover that your rating is lower than you think - in that case you could request your credit file from Equifax and get it sorted. :T :T :T

Hmm, interesting - the questions seem to almost be a 'truth' test?

Do you have such and such a card? Does it have such and such a limit? - I wonder if you get it wrong they score you lower because you are untrustworthy?

No its NOT a truth test ! Its verifying your identity  I.e. they get your credit file and then ask you to confirm your indentity as per whats on the file.
