Best compact 4x4
I'm hoping to buy a 4x4 car in the next few months and I'm really just looking for a little advice. At the moment my favourite is the Toyota Rav 4 but I also quite like the Ford Kuga. I drive around 15,000 miles a year and to be perfectly honest my initial thoughts are based on looks rather than performance - apologies to car enthusiasts out there!
I'm still at the early stages of looking around so I'm really just after some ideas of cars to test drive or any that you think are best avoided!
Thank you.

VW Tiguan, wish I could afford one, a friend in France has one and it is great.0

Kugas aren't very good off road but depends on how you are going to use it. You will get far more for your money with a front wheel drive hatchback for instance - Focus/Astra/Golf etc
If it is an offroader you need, consider the nissan x-trail. Rav4s are good but costly. Freelanders can be unreliable.
Be careful of front wheel drive SUV type things. Nissan Juke or Quashqai will be no better offroad than their micra. Even some freelanders are FWD. Then again if you really like the look of a 4x4 then maybe this is what you should go for as it is more likely you will get better mpg.0 -

Has to be.
But the OP doesn't specify why they want a 4x4, sounds as if looks are more important so a 2wd SUV might be more appropriate.0 -

Hey, you know what......... Im pleasantly surprised that for once someone's not coming on here and spouting off non-sense about buying a new car for the fuel economy, tax, or some other dumb excuse (because buying a car to save money is an obvious pile of cr4p).
Seems people feel the need to make lame excuses for simply wanting a new car.
"I want a new car, because I want a new car", fair play
Though im afraid i've no idea what would suit, as long as it's not a "Nissan Joke", you should be fine“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
