Cheers for the hugs xx there were no presents.......

 NO PRESENTS???? ooh dear. Maybe he's given them up for Lent? ;)
A trick of my grans, she always lines her bins in the rooms with an old worn pillowcase. It got emptied in the outside bin ( don't think they had bin bags then?) and it got washed and put used again and again........and again. When I was little I thought she was keeping the bins cosy.

that's a lovely story. may have to try that one myself

how are you today?? How long is Mr F staying??

LOVE it that you thought your gran was keeping the bins cosy! :):):) What a lovely idea :):)

We've only got bins in the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom (the only thing that gets put in there is stuff out of pockets, so it doesn't get emptied very often and has no plastic in :rotfl:) Don't tend to use plastic in the bathroom either - although I often empty it into a plastic bin bag to save bringing the entire bin downstairs to empty outside... which now I think of it is a bit daft! :o:D

Thinking of you today, about to start a willow planting extravaganza in a bit! :T :T
  • Trog hope you're alright.

What a great idea about using a pillowcase for the bins - might try that out with an old one which has already been used for straining apple jelly (and washed but it's a bit of a funny colour). We tend to put a lot of stuff straight into the outside bin (it's right outside the kitchen door) but do still use bought bags for the swing bin in the kitchen for some bits and pieces. Living room and bathroom bins don't have bags in - the bathroom one has a removable bucket that gets a wash out when it's emptied.

Oh and despite our efforts we still end up with loads of carrier bags too! They mostly get used for mucky cat litter but still have too many hanging around :o

Lovely talks about bags....busy sewing yesterday, so didn't come on. (((((Hugs))))) to Pippi and Wik xx

Made a cover for the new iP*d T*uch
DS2 is getting on Saturday...19 already  Only one year left and I'll have no teenagers...don't know whether to laugh or cry! :D

Also made something for Pippi...but it's a surprise, so no piccies, at least not yet :rotfl:

Need to take piccies of my makes before I wrap them up though.

Out and about shopping and collecting DS2 today...may get more sewing/gardening done later.

I managed to cut back the rasps and weeded under them, as well as clearing one of the veg raised beds. Most have black plastic covering them, but one or two don't. I re-use the plastic for at least three years, so the roll I got
10 years ago is lasting AGES!! Covering with plastic keeps the weeds down (good for my back - less weeding :D), and helps to warm up the soil in Spring. I also grow through it in some cases eg potatoes, sweet corn etc. I use a few plastic bottles with the bottoms cut off and half-buried in the ground to water the soil underneath...so much less evaporates. Looking abot my garden, I use quite bit of plastic, but I keep re-using it, so at least add less to landfill.

I just wish there was an easy way to recycle broken plastic pots. If I have too many whole pots in a size I don't use, I take them to a local garden centre where I can donate them and possilby pick up a few of the size I do use. A small donation is given to the Air Ambulance, so win-win for everyone!! Maybe you do this already Pippi, or perhaps a good idea to start?

Right, need to get a few things done before heading out.

    Have a good day xx

Re the plastic bags in bins conundrum; don't know if its the same everywhere but we get lots of bags through the door for charities or dodgy businesses pretending to be charities and you fill them and leave them on the doorstep to be collected [or stolen ]. I tend to use those in our kitchen bin as they arrive unasked for and we get several some weeks and I don't use them to donate stuff very much so am at a loss about what else to use them for.....
