Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

  • Evening budgeteers

I was very red last week but that's what a combination of Xmas, Birthdays and post-exam celebrations will do to your budget.

I have quite a lot on this week: Sun - Train journey & dinner with a friend (£40), Wed - Bookgroup (£5) & Thursday - Work Xmas night out (£40 or more)

So I am going to pledge £100 for this week:eek:

Let me know your results and pledges and I will update the first post.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone:D

Good Morning, thanks for the new thread PP :)

I have £58 in my purse this morning :). I really want this to last me 3 weeks  I have finished my Christmas shopping and am not planning on going near any shops (apart from food shopping) until about August :D I don't even have any ebay parcels to post this week :) So it could be quite do-able. Move over Scrooge ...... here comes freeby :)

My pledge for this week is £18. Here's to a nsd today to get the week off to a great start

  • Good morning everyone.
Could I please join in with this challenge (joining everything I can to get my spending under control, and thoroughly enjoying the motivation its giving me).
This week is my ds nursery party and nativity (with raffle), followed by a buffet for my form class later in the week, then my work Christmas night out Friday. Not the best week to be frugal but if I spend less than £60 between now and Friday I'll be really pleased.
    Thanks

    Hi all

I've updated last week's thread now, apologies it was a bit later than I would have liked. Had a very busy few days! Hibernating today!

    Here's the plan:

Sun 11 Dec: NSD for challenge (not true NSD as small food top up from food budget for things that couldn't get on Thur, and petrol from petrol budget and Sellotape from Christmas budget)
Planned - Mon 12 Dec: Rollie Stuff £8
Planned - Tue 13 Dec: AL, True NSD
    Planned - Wed 14 Dec: Cigs £3.45
Planned - Thu 15 Dec: AL, True NSD
Planned - Fri 16 Dec: Rollie Stuff £9, Starbucks £3

    Total so far: £0/£30

Have a fantastic week all - I'm gonna revert to rollies methinks, interspersed with the off 10 cigs, as I need to save money, I've gone mad this month. Being finally DF makes up for it a teeny bit though!!!

Hey everyone! So last week is a green week coming in at £9.50/20!

Spends next week are a little more tricky -

Monday - Car is going in for MOT tomorrow and it SHOULD pass. Also need to get packing supplies and post off a gift to my best friend.
Tuesday - Need to finish Christmas shopping. No idea what to get for the OH!
Wednesday - Should be going to a baby shower/lunch thing if I've recovered from the throat infection I've got going on
    Thursday - Nothing planned
Friday - Bus fare home from night shift at £3
    Saturday - nothing planned

Plus I'll need petrol in among all that so I'm going to budget £120 for the week to include everything!
    Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £
    LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000

What a good start to the week....

    Sunday - NSD :)

Today I have to post ebay parcels. I thought I wouldn't have anything this week but two things sold on Saturday night right at the last minute that had no watchers. I knew nothing about it, as I was convinced nothing else would sell, until I got e-mails notifiying me of payment. :) So seeing as they were quick to pay, I had better be quick to post :)

    Have a good Monday x
