i work as as an account exec for a courier company, generally we only allow 20% b2c in our network so our business customers don't suffer at times like this.
What really annoys me is if you buy somthing for nd delivery, you should expect to be home. otherwise why ask for nd delivery0 -

Our business is predominantly business to business, however the businesses we supply can often be part time sellers from home, be they market traders, carbooters or Ebay sellers.
I'm not sure if it is a wholly British problem but when I was in the US there seemed to be less of a problem with couriers delivering as they had a pretty good infrastructure and simple redelivery/collection system if someone was out..0 -
i tend to disagree though, we allow 100% b2c on a 2day, if you spent a day out with a delivery driver on a route which is mostly b2b you would see how much more efficient the job is.
I do agree about businesses at home though, but in our network as long as it is addressed to a business it is classed as b2b.
Our business is predominantly business to business, however the businesses we supply can often be part time sellers from home, be they market traders, carbooters or Ebay sellers.
Those above will most likely be in to receive the goods.
I went to see a possible client today and they do about 50 parcels per day all b2c, they want to reduce their costs as they feel yodel are 2 expensive, i had to laugh when she said her rate was £2.50 for 2 day delivery, i am sorry but this is whats killing the industry, you can't possibly say they could be making any money here, in face i have worked for 4 carriers and i know on all 4 companies the base costs were at least 80p more than that.0 -

I don't really know much about Yodel as a company but if they have big bucks to back up low pricing then they could do well, given their poor (that's a generous description!) customer service and complaints from staff I doubt that is true. If a driver is getting 60p to deliver a parcel 20 miles out of their way I can understand them not handling it, a bit annoying when my business ends up at the mercy of this and I can't even get the parcel back.
It does look as though no one has really got to grips with internet sales deliveries, Royal Mail seems to alternate between encouraging and discouraging, Post Offices frown at extra parcels. With smart phones it could be possible to deliver to have targetted deliveries, so people would know when to expect, rather than losing a whole day if they aren't available. The next option would be to have more places to leave parcels rather than very few regional depots that most people can't get to, Safestore, Spaces, etc would be good as they have couriers regularly going in and out anyway.
As for Yodel, I wouldn't use them again if they paid me £2.50 a parcel.:mad:.0 -
I had 2 parcels to go back this week after failing to collect last week; a driver arrived mid-morning and took both although only expecting to collect one. Then 2 hours later another driver arrived to collect 2 parcels, I told him they had been collected but he didn't speak english and couldn't understand that the parcels had already gone. It took 15 mins of trying to explain when eventually I looked at his paperwork and ticked failed collection for him. He left very confused. How bizarre, he just couldn't understand very basic english.
I had the parcel delivered and collected from work, but the address showed my home postcode despite me contacting yodel on many occaisons to get their paperwork changed. The drivers go by postcode so this could be one reason why they failed last week. The email confirmations always showed my work postcode so no idea whee they got my home one from.
I'd never use them for business, we use TNT and they have never failed a delivery slot in over 10 years.0 -

Do they not offer insurance on the packages?
Some other companies also refund postage costs if the package is late! Have you used Planet Parcel before? They do both and had no problems yet in sending OR receiving!0 -
