Yodel nightmares

Options
I may have previously recommended Yodel on these boards as an adequate low price courier service. I just wanted to clarify our current advice. Don't use to send and avoid companies who use to deliver.

They may be getting through with most parcels, but if something goes awry they have no way of dealing with it. We were sending 20+ parcels a week with them so have quite a bit of experience over several months.

Our initial dealings with them were when they first started a few months ago, they did manage to lose a parcel then and have other issues, I was informed this was starting problems and that they would be ironed out. They seemed to manage fairly well until mid November.

Whilst they have managed to sort out most of our problems, there is an ongoing parcel that according to their tracking details has travelled the country and 3 weeks on is still 200 miles from the delivery and more than that from the collection address. Customer service is impossible, no online replies and nowhere with phone.

We do also have claims ongoing for parcels left outside and other delayed and undelivered items.

Having looked at Twitter this is not uncommon and not exclusive to us, they even have their own hashtag #yodel

There are two threads running on Amazon reguading them at the moment

Yodel are sending flyers in my area advertising for car owners to do deliveries. Not many things you can pack into a car for 60p a package.

I had them deliver £200+ of goods from the Amaxon black fridays deals, or at least that's what it said on the tracking. only I never got them. Loads of sealings with amazon, and at one point the yodel rep was with them, and even she was unable to get an answer as to where my parcel was. I has to have replacements of all itmes. One week later they threw a breakable item over the fence (8 foot) and posted a note that they had done it!! Broken and had to be replaced. All items resent where dispatched vi royal mail.

My £350 new phone has disappeared while in Yodel's care. Apparently signed for last night at 19.55, but certainly wasn't signed for by me, nor by the security desk at work who control access to the building at that time of night.

O2 won't do anything until Yodel give them an incident reference, Yodel won't do that without speaking to the driver which they don't seem to have managed yet even though it's been 24 hours.

At best incompetence, at worst theft, but either way right now I am £350 down and at the mercy of two apparently totally indifferent suppliers.

Update: Glad to say it was incompetence not dishonesty. The delivery arrived before our postroom closed but wasn't booked on Yodel's system til after the postroom shut so we didn't realise it was there - we were looking at the security desk. I found out when the postroom told me - I hadn't been able to get a clear explanation from Yodel or O2 all weekend.

Had a few of those, one where tracking said signed by "PORCH" which actually meant the driver had left it outside the porch. There seems to be no culpability to drivers, I've never even had an apology for any resolved issues, at this stage I'd be happy with my goods back or cash to the value. Ongoing claim seems to be taking forever with ridiculous questions which look as though they are trying to wriggle out of paying for a fault of their incompetent staff.

It's going to be a great Xmas for the family of Yodel's drivers and staff - they'll want for nothing!
  • might I just point out here that as the UK's largest private delivery firm, YODEL will (or theoretically should) have a higher number of complaints than any other courier on here, and if you look at numbers, city link, a smaller operation, have almost as many, I use YODEL for my eBay sometimes, and have more problems with UKMail than YODEL, but you don't see them on these boards nearly as much.
  • The issue is not that things go wrong, it's that there is no mechanism to put them right.

As the UK's largest delivery firm, YODEL should be doing better than a man and van outfit. Instead we get unanswered phones, uncontactable drivers, 11 hour delivery slots and part time customer services staff who can't speak to anyone involved in distribution.

A potential theft is not something to deal with in office hours only.
