I always tell Mrs. Bob the Saver she looks fantastic without any extra cosmetics or make-up,
and then I don't need to spend a quid on a bag!

Im afraid I need a bag for my missus.( + another for over the head:D)

I stand by my original sentiments though that a pound is a total rip-off and threatening to take away a passenger's property due to a little plastic bag is very poor customer service by Stansted.

Trouble is, Stansted, and its security personnel have to comply with DfT requirements as much as passengers do, or face hefty penalties. DfT and CAA do audit airports, and you know that if any shortcomings are found it'll fall down to the poor security officer on duty at the time.

As for charing a quid... like I said, airports have lost a massive amount of their revenue in recent years (airlines are now paying a LOT less than before), so are looking to claw that back however they can. Do Stansted charge for baggage trollies yet?

I understand what you mean, but as with most MSE'ers I don't like companies that make money out of hidden charges and by catching people out. It is bad enough for most Stansted passengers worrying about Ryanair's extra charges without the airport itself starting too.

None of us like hidden charges but this one isn't hidden if you don't use a bag that's the right size and resealable then you will be charged for one that complies with the regs.. and those regs are there for anyone to read if you look.

I know, I just think the regs should be for security rather than exploiting a captive audience with punitive charges.

The specific bag size rule is there so you can only bring max 1 litre onboard.

The reason the bag has to be see-through is so security can see what's inside.

The reason the bag has to be resealable is so any dodgy fumes remain in the bag and security can do a test with a probe.

The reason airports charge for bags - because they can. I don't agree with it, by the way. The bags are free at Gatwick.

I know the liquids rules are a PITA, but it's just easier to comply than to get caught and charged £1 or however much.

I never bother with this liquids-in-a-bag thing. I can't be bothered to get them out so I just leave them all in my case and there's never a problem.

I also find it hard to comply with all these "knee jerk reaction" rules while in bare feet with my trousers round my ankles..........and a "frisker's" thumb up my @rse.

A standard size is not so much for 'security' as speed of processing. A few seconds extra makes no noticeable difference to you but it adds up over thousands of passengers.

And while they do 'cost' a few pence each they do cost to give out. And it costs to account for the cash. Maybe not £1 though

Personally ICBB - it all goes in the hold. And I've long given up on Stansted. If the only flights are from there I choose a different destination.
