Some of the things people mention are the prices on the SEL at my store so don't really seem a bargain to me, anyone else think the same ?

    Demister pads 25p
Andrex ( small handy rolls) 50p

Off for a quick look around before I go out on the works p*ss up

    Good point.

In my store there were 2 clip strips of de-misters. The one that said 25p was empty. The one that said full price (£1 ish) was full !
So 25p is not what they have always been.
They seem to be for the car, but I'm going to use them in the bathroom and the house windows when they're steamed up on cold mornings
Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)
It takes 3500 calories to lose a pound in weight. Target 13 lbs weight loss. 18.5lbs lost 2nd May - 28 September.

I work in the civil service and will have paid into my pension for at least 43 years by the time I retire.....out of interest how much do you think my pension will be?

probably more than my private fund.

I see soooooo many people who have retired between the ages of 40 and 50, worked for the government in one way or another, and find instead of retiring at 60, I now have to work to 66, to partly fund the pensions of those, (who have been allowed to retire a good 20 years before me), who have been given golden goodbyes/enhanced pension deals to take early retirement.

On Sky news a few months back, it said for someone in the private sector to get the same pension as the average paid teacher they would have to pay £500,000 into a pension fund.

Edit: Just found it in the Telegraph also

Ok running late to do xmas shopping, so don't have time for a long debate, but I am also someone who will be receiving a public sector pension and just a few points that irk me.

    1. For many people they only read what is in the papers and I can assure you that if you took the time to read the actual facts instead of the papers garb, then you would know that none of us (with the exception of perhaps mp's and some whitehall staff) are going to be receiving gold plated pensions.

    2. I actually pay in for my pension and have done since I was 16 yrs old. My pay is adjusted to take into acct the fact that my employer (yes the government, but still an employer) pay some of my pension in for me. If they did not pay monies into my pension then my wages would be higher, so in fact I am still paying the majority of this proportion myself too.

    3. I will be able to retire when I am 60, but working longer has no benefit to me as with my pension I am only allowed to pay in for 40 yrs and as I started at 16, I will be fully paid up when I am 56. I would work longer and pay longer if I could, but I cannot.

    4. As I have many years to go until retirement, my state pension will be pretty much worthless by the time I get there, so my private pension is all I have.

    5. Whilst I appreciate that not everyone either public or private can afford to pay into a pension scheme, everyone is able to and it is therefore unfair to moan at public sector workers who opted to do so. It is an individual choice for everyone to make based on their own circumstances.

    6. Please remember that all public sector workers work very hard in there various roles and many are key to the running of the country, doctors, nurses, firemen, police, teachers and even tax offices as without the collection of tax, the government would not have any money to play with in the first place.

    7. It is also important to remember that with a lot of the lower paid workers, if they are forced to opt out of their pension schemes, then when they reach retirement they will be forced to claim benefits to be able to survive and this would cost the government a lot more than the contributions that they make into the pensions schemes.

Sorry to rant so early in the morning, I appreciate that everyone has a right to their own opinion on the matter and I wouldn't want to try and change that, it's just that so many people read the papers and believe what they read, then comment on this. Whereas if they had taken the time to look at the actual facts before they commented, they may have a different view on matters :)

Not a subject I know a great deal about as I have never worked as a civil servant and still have a long(ish) way to go before I retire. However, I am sure my MIL would be more than happy to swap pensions with you. She worked many years for the civil service, a fair number of them at middle management level, did not retire early and certainly struggles on the pension she has.
