i've opened one account per year putting in the full allowance on the first day of each tax year...and changed banks every couple of years to maximise on interests.
i'd say 5% of my brain is dedicated to money saving and always has been since i was a kid. :rotfl:I am EXACTLY the same! When I received money for presents when I was a child, my Mum she encouraged me to save it because I was very lucky growing up and had so many presents it seemed ridiculous to spend our money on more.
Then I got my first job when I was 14 and would spend half and save half.
I've had rubbish luck with my health (amongst a lot of other things!) which resulted in me having to drop out of uni and leave jobs. The roles then reversed and I looked after my Mum full time for a couple of years. However at 24, even though I've never earned much more than minimum wage, I have enough saved to put down a considerable deposit on a home. I will be staying at home for the foreseeable future to minimise the amount I will need to borrow for a mortgage but for anyone that doesn't think that it's possible, IT IS!! :T
Incase you didn't guess, I take control of most of the spending in the household!Since I started using MSE on a regular basis back in March in the days of DTD, I have spent just over £1350 on groceries including alcohol and all cleaning/household products and dog food for a family of 4 adults and 2 dogs. Which equates to £32.20 per week! :beer:And let me tell you we eat WELL!!
I LOVE saving money!:j And this site is bl00dy fantastic! :money:'There are people who have money and people who are rich' :heart2: Coco Chanel0 -

Afternoon everyone,
I am going to be so in trouble, have quite a long list of things to do and don't want to miss a thing here and have been catching up for last 2 and half hours.
Not been to Ts since sunday so starting to get a bit fidgety.
But did want to say a big thank you to everyone for all the help on here. I can't believe that I didn't bat an eyelid when the car needed filling up on monday, can remember this time last year struggling to think how we could afford it as still things to buy for christmas and only putting a few pounds in not being sure would last until next pay day. And to think since june OH has only had half a job so half a wage but things started to look up with some extra hours and they have been told that the wage cut they have taken last 2 years won't be needed next year and wages will revert back to pre wage cut. :j Not sure when takes effect but good news all the same.
But even with less money coming in this year we have kept our heads well above water thanks to all you lovely lot. Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and that our luck with our 1p and 4p finds and glitching stays with us all for the New Year.:xmassign:
ps please if anyone sees my green light on give me a gentle reminder by PM that I really should be getting on.
Exactly the same here; this time last year I was constantly in my overdraft struggling by the middle of every month.Since finding MSE forums and, in particular, the delightful and wonderfully helpful people on this thread my finances have been totally overhauled. My debts will be payed off by 1st January, I'm able to live comfortably within my means and I'm actually saving some money for the future for the first time in years.Friends and family will be receiving some wonderful gifts (mainly courtesy of Mr T ;-) ) and we'll all be enjoying each others company with some (ahem!) 'free' biscuits, wine & chocs from the numerous glitches. So a big thanks to EVERYONE on this board! You've all helped make my Christmas extra special this year!
