Great deal for an upscaling DVD player with HDMI output - useful for those of you with an HD READY tv. The regular price is a bargain - at around £5 more, but I believe this is a 'Today only' deal at Scan - you will need to scroll down a bit to find the deal - it is featured in a picture.

They most certainly do!
I viewed Star Wars III via HDMI at 1080i on my Sharp 42XD1E and it was amazing - the difference in detail is astounding, colours are more vibrant and audio is crystal clear via hdmi.
By the way, I put the original link there because the direct link does not take you to the 1 day offer page where you can buy it for about £5 less.:cool:0 -
woolworths do them for £39.99 instore, hdmi and divx and card reader0

Does it have progressive scan and what brand is it? Can't see it online.0

Sigh
No, they don't work, they are a gimmick. The more vibrant colours and clearer audio is because of the digital (HDMI) connection in place of the analogue (component/scart), NOT because it upscales.
99% of TV's upscale better than these cheapo upscaling DVD players.0 -

So, you're saying that traditional DVD Video over a lesser horizonal resolution is superior?
Never heard of TV's upscaling, that's news to me - I was under the impression it was the source input that determined upscaling.0 -

Sigh. Of course the TV upscales. Think...
HD Plasma TV = 768 lines (typical), DVD = 480/576 lines (typically). It doesnt just display the image on a 1:1 pixel mapping and use only 576 lines, it scales the image to fill the screen, using all 768 lines.
The TV cannot reduce the amount of pixels it has, it just (up)scales the image that the source has fed it to fit.
Upscaling DVD players ARE a gimmick. Unless you're paying decent cash for a Denon etc which will process the image better than the TVs built in image processing.0
