Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 9th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
I've been awake since 2 but stayed in bed hoping to fall asleep again, at 3 I decided it wasn't going to happen so I've come down to make a cuppa..
Bramble belated birthday wishes, Nice to see you posting FW
Hubby's boss was gutted when he gave notice & more or less admitted that they weren't really going to go to split shifts & that they were just trying to scare him into accepting a lower wage!
DS has replaced my starter motor, but thinks it might be a problem with the immobiliser, he's given me a few tips on how to start the car if the problem re-occurs & he will bridge the immobiliser if that is the problem.
Spag bol for tea tonight.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
PS Morning Jackie & Molly who arealso awake this morning

Good Morning Hester and All Who Follow x

A very early start for me and have been frightening myself reading the benefit boards. Honestly there are some very opinionated and bigoted people around. Now why did I even stray over there? I know I should stay here :o

Well done to Hubby on telling his boss HH. We are currently going through a similar process with Kid's Dad and his work. I just feel it is so unfair on him as he has such a lot on his plate - perhaps this has been the reason for my membership of the insomniac's club this week? Talk about my nerves a jangling:eek::eek::eek:

Absolutely no OS...nada....nothing!!! I have tamed the washing and now there is a mountain of ironing. I did not find any bed bugs but it pays to be careful :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: (Kid's Dad and DD thought I was very OTT). We are eating out of the freezer and I will have to replenish supplies soon as I built up quite a stock in case of snow (like last year when I was housebound for 3 weeks). The wind has abated and really hope our scottish friends are safe and intact ?

Hugs to you all especially Beth, Lame Wolf, Essex Girl (where are you?), HH and Jackie G xxxx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Good morning, everyone.

Hester - sounds like they don't deserve your DH. Thank goodness he has a new job. Hope the car is OK.

Molly41 - I've heard others say that they have visited the benefits boards and wished they hadn't. God job you came back here!

Mrs Mix - well done to your DD; that's a great achievement! I think a few of us are finding it difficult to sleep these days. With me, I just put it down to having too much to think about, and I'm still a bit stuffed up with an allergic reaction to something.

I hope none of you suffered any damage due to the horrendous weather in Scotland and the north of England. It all looked very scary on the news last night.

Well, today I need to do a little bit more Christmas shopping, then that should be it. I need it get it all wrapped up ready for our departure for the UK in less than two weeks. I shall probably spend most of the weekend getting it done.

Dinner tonight will be something with sausages, same as Mrs Mix, but I have no idea what. I might make the potato scones that Jamie made in the last episode of his latest TV series. I made them a couple of weeks ago; apart from being absolutely massive because I over-estimated the amount of potato, they were delicious!

Anyway, I hope you all have a great day.

In my calendar - a Christmas pud :xmassmile

Bramble I have made you a cake :bdaycake: I didn't forget your birthday (errrmmm, ahem, cough cough). I was at work yesterday so I made it last night. Obviously it was too warm to ice, so I had to leave it until this morning. You do believe me, don't you?? :o

I shouldn't have gone into work yesterday. I was OK for a couple of hours, then I was a bit light-headed and going hot and cold for the rest of the day. I was doing a bit of data entry (so very easy work, no thought required) and even struggled with that.

Mr tru has a physio appointment for his arm, then a podiatry appointment for his foot. So that's the morning gone. The appointments are an hour and a half apart, so we'll nip to Dunelm for some blackout material in between.

Can you believe, my kitchen's still not finished? All the main things were done ages ago, but there's still bits and pieces to do. The hall and utility are the same. So I wrote a snagging list :rotfl: We'll get started on it this afternoon.

Tru - Thank you for my cake - of course i believe you! thanks HH too :)

    Morning all

Early for me considering i'm on holiday AND consumed a fair amount of wine last night. But i'm wide awake so there is no point staying in bed.

Shame our telly blew up last night.... So need to start a search for a new one. Hopefully OH will get paid today and we can go to town tomorrow to purchase one. Need to find a tape measure to see what size the old one was. It's a really heavy old box one and big so who knows what we are going to do with it now. I don't think it fits in my car!

I will be doing house work today, stinky rabbit needs cleaned out, pup will need walked and then I wanted to go spend some money on baking bits and bobs. Even without a telly i will procrastinate.

Oh yeah, dinner... .not sure we ordered takeaway pizza last night as had a 50% off deal, will pick at the l/o today and see if we fancy stir fry later .

Hope everyone has a lovely day

Good Morning all,bad night for my creaky joints last night, too much rain always makes them ache.Still its friday and I am taking my DGD Holly out to lunch.I have some vouchers for the local Brewersfayre and they are doing a special deal of two for one for a tenner which is good. Its just a little thank you as she picks the boys up for me on a Friday afternoon so I can go to History clubwhich finishes 20 minutes after they come out of school.I then go to her house to pick them up so she has them for about half an hour for me.She doesn't mind as its not a day she has to be into Uni and it means I can carry on with my Friday afternoons outing. We both end up happy :):)
I'm hoping DDs cold will be a bit better today she was suffering last night a bit.
Well I'm off to have some porridge and a dollop of cream for breakfast have a good day everyone .Well done HH's OH for making a move .
    Cheers chums

    Morning all
Woke up at 2 but drifted back off until DS2 came in, he had woke up cold so ended up snuggling in his bed so now have a crick in the neck!!
Wrapped up presants yesterday only DS1 and DS2's left to wrap so will get some paper today to do that as I don't think I'll have enough ledt over, DS2 needs money today for school I think they're doing the oxfam unwrapped thing by the sounds of it as we have had talk of buying goats and piglets well my £1 may purchase a single trotter, don't get me wrong I am happy to donate but its this on top of 3+ hamper items and then pay to see the Christmas concert we're not too bad but I know some people are struggling to make ends meets expecially at this time of the year and they just want us to give give give - moan over
The winds have been pretty bad over the night but (touch wood) can't see any damage out the window

    Have a fab-a-rooney day everyone
  • Morning All,

I was awake until around for, and have had about two hours worth of sleep.

Sadly, my lovely brother in law lost his fight last night just before midnight. I am heartbroken for my family that he didn't manage to win the fight. Thanks to all of you for all your good wishes through all this, and to some very special OSers who kept me going last night through the worst few hours of my life.

Hugs and spoons all round today, I think.
