Hopefully? That says it all really yeah hopefully she will get a job, it's very hard out there now

HMRC stop paying tax credit when a child turns 16 unless they remain in full time education or register with connections. if they turn 16 and are not in full time education then you get 0 tax credits regardless of wether they sign on or not if a child is pregnant, the midwife said i will still get CTC because she cannot claim IS until she is 29 weeks which was last week so now i will lose her CTC. Now i know that advice is wrong i can sort it out

It now appears that your overpayment started in July OP, you've had 5 months to tell HMRC that your "child" is not in education. even though her course finished in july child benefit and CTC finishes in september. Her child benefit finished in september

    Child Tax Credit
Your household is not entitled to Child Tax Credit because of the following reasons:-
    - The household must have care of at least one child who is under the age of 20.
    or
    - Children between 16 and 19 must be in full-time education or on an approved training course or registered with a careers service, Connexions or similar organisation.
    or
    - Children between 19 and 20 must be in full-time education or on an approved training course. They must have enrolled, been accepted for or started full-time education or approved training before they turned 19.

    That's from the HMRC website.

And it makes me an honest person, I'd never say anything in your absence that I wouldn't say in your presence. I never did get the social need to sugar coat/gloss over things and I certainly wouldn't pretend to be happy for your daughter in real life to her face so I won't on here.

I honestly don't think any child should have a child is that a bad thing?

My daughter starts University in September 2012. She was supposed to start this year but because of the pregnancy they have saved her place for next year and have promised her a place at the Universities creche for the baby.

Baby hasn't arrived yet. Like many working first time mums to be who say they'll go back to work after baby arrives, she may find she has a change of opinion and wants to spend time bringing her child up instead.

I would be planning for this being a possibility.

No it's not a possibility. She is 19 next week so still young. If she were older and in a relationship with a partner being the bread winner and could afford to stay home with baby then yes but i will make sure she goes to University next year.

You don't have to have a career to be paying taxes. Any time out of employment will count against her. Once baby is born she can speak with a Lone Parent Advisor at the JCP, they'll find her something to tide her along, better than years on IS!

Students do not pay tax with work they do whilst at University or College. She will not have years on benefit, she is a worker. Even whilst at Secondary school she always had a job even if it were voluntary work she had at a rescue centre so i know she will do well.

Students are not exempt from tax. They have the same personal allowance as anybody else.

Oh yes they do - if they earn more than the tax free allowance (currently £7.5k per year). There's no special tax dispensation for students.
