Hi I work in retail and I'm scheduled to work on boxing day however I have no way of getting into work as I use public transport which are not running on boxing day, does anyone know how I deal with this can I be forced to try and find alternative transport ie taxi

    Thanks

It is your responsibility to get to your place of work as others have said. There will surely be some buses running as shops will be open. Here it's usually a Sunday service, my advice is to contact the bus company.

No there are no buses as where I live we don't have Sunday service! I live 8 miles away from my work in a village where no one else at work lives. I have asked friends and family but no one is willing to drive me in at 8.00am and yes a taxi would cost me more than I would earn.
  • Better put a bike on your Christmas list.

Swap shifts with someone? That would probably be the best option.

How do you manage when you have to work Sundays if no buses run?

Maybe ask the employer to help with the cost towards a taxi other than that its get a bike for xmas, swap shifts or just get a taxi, you learning to drive ? as you could get a car or a scooter.
  • well you may just have to suck it up for this one shift in that u have to pay for the taxi to keep your job.

    Fair enough.

It's a shame that non of your friends and family are willing to help you get there.
You could borrow a bike at a push but depends on weather/road conditions.
I would just be honest with them and say you won't be able to get in and see what they say.

NB: Forget the Taxi idea unless you can afford it. The fares on boxing day can be upto double in some areas!
