Public transport is running normally on Boxing Day.. it's only Christmas day when it doesn't run.0

I am pretty sure it isn't an employers responsibility on how you get to work, but I may be wrong. Say for instance, my car broke down, I would have to find alternative means to get into work.
Are you meaning a taxi is too far? Can you maybe lift share with someone?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

Ha! You don't live in Britain, then?I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
How far away is your work place?0

No, you are quite correct.
The only exception is if there is some contractual agreement like providing a works bus.
That is not to say that the employer won't be sympathetic and maybe even contribute if there is a real problem but they don't have to.0 -

I was surprised to find that there are 'buses running during shopping hours' in my area. Didn't even realise the shops were open!0 -
i think what the OP means is that it will cost more for her to get a taxi than what she will earn that day wiping out an entire days pay possibly more.0

Can you not catch a lift with a colleague or politely ask a neighbour/friend(maybe they were planning on driving close to where you work) to take you and you get a taxi back.
Have you checked the buses are running or are you guessing the buses aren't running.0 -

How did you get that from what the OP stated?

That is a pretty good service for many areas on a normal day!0
