5 miles is nothing. I would do it for a colleague. You can but ask

I agree, you should ask your colleague. I would do five miles out my way each way for a tenner. I would probably do it for nothing if I liked the person! Good luck0

There is no public transport round here on Boxing Day (Stagecoach, First, and Norfolk Green)0 -
five miles is nothing, I would go 20 miles out of way to help a colleague
if you cannot shift swap to a time or day when you can get there, and dont want to pay the fare in a cab, then you have little option but rely on goodwill of friends, family or colleagues.0 -

That is a pretty good service for many areas on a normal day!
Errrm OP works in retail and is probably on minimum wage or just above.
A taxi on Boxing Day can easily charge double time so it wasnt exactly rocket science.
And the OP has been back on this thread and confirmed that i was right.0 -

So would i and frequently do........a nice bottle of wine would probably be a nice gesture for anyone who gives you a lift!!!0 -
I would do that as a one off and not ask for the petrol money. Although I agree a bottle of wine as a gift would go down well!
Ask your colleague!0 -
Knowing a bus driver I know that there is a service on Boxing day as they tend to work overtime. It may be a limited service.
I can understand family not wanting to drop you off at 08.00, it would mean that they would also have to watch what they drink.
Ask your colleague if they would mind and offer the extra cost of petrol.0
