    Why don't you post on a subject that you know something about?

    There is absolutely no reason why a TV maker would "not be allowed to" make a TV that could not receive the BBC. For digital TV it would be easy to do, because every channel carries an identifier.

    The reason they don't is because it would be pointless. You need a licence for a TV that is capable of receiving ~any~ live terrestrial channel, not just the BBC channels.
    Why does all the license fee go to the Gov to pay the BBC?They don,t subsidise the other channels do they?I think I may be correct Fwor.?
    EDIT;WIKI;
    The UK was the first country to adopt the compulsory public subscription model with the licence fee money going to the BBC, which was formed on 1 January 1927 by Royal Charter to produce publicly funded programming yet remain independent from government, both managerially and financially

    You've got it all wrong.
    From the TV Licensing website:
    You need a valid TV Licence if you use TV receiving equipment to watch or record television programmes as they’re being shown on TV. ‘TV receiving equipment’ means any equipment which is used to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. This includes a TV, computer, mobile phone, games console, digital box, DVD/VHS recorder or any other device.
    No mention of the BBC. The "as they're being shown" bit is important. You can have a TV and use it only for watching DVDs - you won't need a licence unless you watch live TV, as things stand at the moment at least.

    Hi, A licence is not required, however, if you use your television only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch programmes on your computer after they have been shown on TV.
    This is also from wiki, same as you posted;
    To that I give way, BUT, if you are using it in a house, with reception, I doubt the courts would go in your favour.end

    The Wiki is saying where the money goes to - almost all of it goes to the BBC.

    That's not the same as where the money comes from. It comes from anyone who watches live TV - BBC or any other channel.
  • We bought our last TV from Makro and they did not take details for the licence (but we do pay the extortion to watch the TV). So if you do not want to give your details and have a Makro card, it might be worth a look.

    If you used a trade card, then it will have all your details already. Hence the reason they didn't take your details.

    By law any retailer has to pass on your details, huge fine for them otherwise.

    They are looking at plans that will require the use of the TV license to watch iplayer.

    Then they have really got you when they track back to your IP.
