I was told by a bod working in HMV who seemed to know his onions about these sort of things (very knowledgable and keen) that there will be 1 million units avilable on launch day. Hmmm, I says, surely everyone who want one will be OK to get one. Err, no, he says, the one million figure is for the whole of Europe! Is this true? He also said that the PS3 isn't selling particularly well in the US?0

I believe the numbers are 1 million for the SCEE region (Europe, Russia, India etc.) and 220,000 for UK.0

Thats because they are having lots of problems with the blu ray.
I've been told by someone who knows what he is on about not to bother with the first version and they still haven't solved a lot of these issues.......©..®..(TM) NothingVentured.

The problem from what I understand is not with issues or problems with blu-ray, but with the attempts to cut the machine costs down by the supply of cheaper sub-contractors to make/supply componants
There was an original press release done about 2 months ago to the IT industry to source locations around the world to supply local componants. Can't remember the full ins/outs but I try and hunt down the press release for you all.How much more do I need to spend make myself a "Money Savings Expert"
