Don't get stung by a main dealer like I did

That's what I would go for. Bit it's easy to say that sat in a chair at your computer, when you're out and about, maybe in a rush, many things on your mind and the mechanic calls you and tells you that certain important things need done in that worried voice tone, it's easy to trust his opinion and in the heat of the moment authorise the work.
I'm lucky that my independent garage that I use don't do the whole "phoning up to scary you into paying up" routine.
They just fill out a service sheet with what has been checked and what needs doing and give it to me when I collect the car.0 -
Non story, garage phoned you and you gave them a blank cheque book.
If you want the best prices for everything then do the leg work yourself, you paid the price for the convenience of assuming the garage was the motoring equivalent of a supermarket, well it is but you went to Waitrose instead of Lidl, sorry but you should have asked before the work was done.0 -
We are all so busy nowadays we sometimes have to trust people. I trusted that by using Toyota Inchcape I would have received a higher labour charge as I am paying for their expertise but would have thought oil/tyres to be competitive.
I simply don't have the time to check everything and would have hoped Toyota could have resolved my complaint better.
Still waiting to hear back from them. I asked them yesterday to keep my old tyres so they can be examined. Do you think they will find them?0 -
A miserly neighbour of ours had an offer for a free MOT with a minor srevice from his main dealer.
Due to ill health car had only done 800 miles from last service.
Cost him £295.
Sad to say.
It made my day.
Unbelievable, what on earth has this poor unfortunate neighbour done to you, does being miserly mean they pay their bills and don't P their money up the wall, sounds OK to me.0 -
You may have paid over the odds but the choice was yours, so no you haven't been stung.
What make are these "budget" tyres?0 -
You're mad if you choose to have tyres replaced by a main dealer. Its not their core business (in the way that the tyre fitters are), so of course they'll be more expensive than the cheapest you can get elsewhere.
As neilmcl asks, what are the budget tyres? For all we know they're a decent mid-market tyre0 -
They are Nexen tyres that i can get fitted for £130 less else where. I do think I have been stung as Toyota admitted they didn't confirm the make when they told me I needed new tyres. Assumption is always bad but wouldn't you assume £102 per tyre from a main dealer would suggest a brand tyre?0

Toyota describe them as budget!0

Your picking on the tyre's...... But what about the rest of that stuff? Are they trying to make a 7 year old car like new again? How the heck does a car get into such a state of disrepair?
Looks to me like a standard list of parts they change to meet sales targets, it'd be interesting to see if they do all that for every car they have in for service!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
