How will the message appear when I log into Thunderird at home? Will it be in that folder?

if you use IMAP (which is vastly superior to pop) then yes, any email you move to a label will show in that label in your email client and also under 'all mail'

I would have expected that to be the case, but I'm afraid I don't use Thunderbird so can't say for sure.

I do use IMAP at home, but I think the new look is going to take a bit of getting used to.
I'll give it a go later today and see what's what.

    Hi all

I've got a GMail account and I'm seriously beginning to consider dumping it.
    I hate the new look.
You used to be able to put things in folders, now you can only mark them with labels.
I like to keep my inbox relatively clear and this is going to drive me nuts.
Granted, I use Thunderbird at home (so filing is easy), but I also use the web-portal at work.

Google doesn't seem to have a lot of info, but has anyone come across a "fix" for this?

You can still mark messages with a label and you can still move the message to a folder which has the same name as the label (The folder is created when you create a label).

Put a tick in the box to select the message(s), then the options for labels and to move will appear above the message list.

Inbox for not dealt with or pending. Folders for action taken but wish to keep (divided according to topic). It may not be your preference but calling it irrational is a bit of an overstatement!

I work with someone who doesn't use folders at all. His inbox had over 7000 email in it last time I looked!

How he finds anything is a mystery. It drives me mad looking at it!

Other than a couple a label filters I don't bother sorting out email in my Gmail inbox. If I need to find something I just use the search box.

As you might expect from Google, searching your mailbox is quick and easy. I keep most of my mail in the inbox with just a few labels for really important stuff.

GMail - not a fan of the new look, have reverted back. It just feels to wasteful of space, I would rather a denser, more work-like interface than it looking all 'designed'

But for those of you who use GMail, 3 key features you MUST turn on for a better life! Have a look in Labs under settings - 'Send and Archive' button helps keep things clean and tidy by automagically archiving.
'Undo Send' - OMG this has saved my life about 50 times over - you get a few seconds of 'OMGOMGOMG!' time to undo a sent message when you have replied to all by mistake, or suddenly remember you've emailed the wrong person. Best thing ever.
'Priority Mailbox' - takes a couple of hours to get used to it, but an incredibly helpful feature. It will automagically (or can be set up however suits) split your mails into Priority (based on who it's from, to, who else it's to, select words in the body, etc), Starred (ie deal with me later), Drafts (I have that set up as it's handy for me) and Everything Else. It is surprisingly accurate, I normally skim the Everything Else folder and it is mostly just 'stuff', and the emails I care about generally land in the PI. And as it syncs with my Android phone, I get fewer mail notifications, and only about stuff I actally care about. It means I can use 'Archive' freely in the Everything Else (and PI and Starred once dealt with) and have had that blissful feeling of an empty inbox.

As someone above mentions - I haven't used a folder in 5 years, when I need anything I just search on a word, name or phrase related to whatever I'm after and job done.
