Are you saying your "annual review" date is July? How did you manage that? I joined in July and currently have an April "annual review" date, i.e. a short first year.
As far as the "standard" bill wording is concerned I don't believe they are implementing what they say. Using similar weighting logic they use to calculate a "spring-aligned" bill (Eon Twitter table or similar), using my recent readings should indicate a 15-20% reduction in annual consumption (over the previous 12 months), but that is not reflected in the calculation.
They obviously want their cake and to eat it.0 -

Sorry if I've misled you - I haven't been given a formal annual review date by EDF in any of our communications, whether written, web or verbal; I'm just working off the completion of our first 12 months with them !!
However, even if I took April for the short year review date I will still be in surplus even if the rest of the Winter is as bad as last year because my usage in the first 5+ months has been considerably less than last year; therefore to my simple mind my DD should decrease for the next period when ever this "annual review" occurs.
However, if the system continues to raise bills after every meter reader visit - since we appear to be on a quarterly list then I will have had 4 reviews by the Spring anyway !!:rotfl:0 -

Personally I'm relaxed about the short year (though I don't agree that it complies with regulations*). I am manipulating it to start the next full year fairly balanced by making the odd extra payment as well as my reduced consumption. Even if I hadn't, the short year deficit would have been significantly less than the "£150" action level, so yet more evidence of Edf wanting their cake and to eat it.
*And where oh where has the Edf rep got to?0 -
Ah. Neither have I, though I have asked the question (several times) and have been verbally informed (several times) with the same answer:).

Thanks for posting the info. A bit light on actual figures and calculations.
According to EDF T&C's, payment methods form part of them. Montly DD is explained and can be taken as cost annual usage/12. Therefore the anniversary date will be either June or July depending upon when the first DD was claimed.
Unless jalexa has come to some special agreement with EDF then his anniversary date will be arrived at on the same basis as yours.
Either the CSA were mistaken or EDF have a hidden zero spring balance policy. If the latter then a complaint to EDF and bringing it to the attention of Consumer Direct or Consumer Focus would be in order. This would not prevent making additional payments to EDf if so desired.0 -
Yes and the contact is Colin Urquhart.
In your case now they have conceded the point you could still write saying a proper explanation wasn't forthcoming with the request and you had to exercise your rights before they conceded.
If you wanted to raise the wider principles of how the Suppliers are flaunting the SLC you could write to Martin Abraham at Ofgem, Consumer Affairs.
Thank you for your support.:T

Text of complaint sent today.
Would encourage everyone in this position to do this formally,in writing - to customerenquiries@edfenergy.com .
I write to raise a formal complaint on the following points
1. Your failure to respond to messages sent to you through your online system in timely fashion, even within your own leisurely 10 day timescale . My messages of 6/12/11 and 9/12/11 remain unanswered beyond an automated acknowledgement .
2. Your failure to remit my £### credit balance as requested, or to provide any reasons for not doing this.
3 Your failure to provide any explanation of your calculation for new direct debit payments despite requests on the phone and in the message below in contravention of SLC 27.14. This requires suppliers to explain in plain, clear and intelligible language the basis upon which they are changing the DD amount. This applies both to my account and to my mother’s account (###) which I manage on her behalf.
Please provide an explanation of what has happened here.
.....
Given this is clearly not an isolated incident and appears to be standard policy (as judged from others’ experience) I am also raising this matter with Customer Focus and Ofgen.

I posted (snail mail rather than email) a letter of complaint to them on December 5, regarding my own experiences with them. No response as yet.
They will only owe me a small amount by the end of my current tariff in September 2012, according to my forecasts, so I'm not sure whether to take it any further or just complete my contract and leave.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
