OK a while ago I lost my phone a nokia 3330 at the time I couldn't find the IMEI number to tell orange to put a stop on it, incase some scrote has it.

Today I had the idea to look at my original contract, no IMEI number - rediculous they didn't write it down!

but there is a serial number
35015180******6

is this the IMEI or something different? CAn the IMEI be found out?

    The phone is lost.

I just opened another Nokia 3330 (difficult to open!)

and there is a similar number in here starting
    350693/80/******/5

doing *#06# on this phone confirms this as the phones IMEI so I can conclude I just found my old phones IMEI, now I can ask Orange to turn it off.

    Question,
If I as the rightful owner ask Orange to turn off the phone by IMEI, can the scrote who has it turn it back on by quoting the IMEI to someone somewhere in the business?

Yes but that is how to check the actual IMEI with any paperwork for future reference.

And the phone is lost, even if something could be done with it (can it? I just deleted my IMEI for another phone from the unlocking thread) it's not going to affect me because I don't have the phone.

Can the scrote re activate the phone if I get it de activated?

And how about the scenario it was written down incorrectly? I could be requesting Orange to turn off someones legitimate phone. Why on Earth doesn't the IMEI get recorded automatically by the phone provider? It's rediculous that Orange couldn't tell me what the IMEI of my phone was (at the time).

So if I wanted to be mischevious I could make up an IMEI (or pinch one from the unloclking threads) and say "I found the IMEI of my lost phone, please turn it off" then someone has the hassle of proving they are the rightful owner of that IMEI and it should be turned back on.

Even deleting your IMEI from the thread will not help if the page is cashed in Google.

You should report it stolen as it should not be possible to re-activate the phone in this country, however it may be sent abroad where it may well work.
