They are vouchers. These days vouchers tend to be replaced in most shops by gift cards. You can't use them after 2 years as there is no way the store can know what the balance of the card is.

No but the thread was about whether an expiration date should be allowed on rld vouchers. Marks and Spencer's have been used as an example of a similar company that lets you use them forever. However this isn't true as their gift cards expire

Yes, but we are talking about vouchers, not M&S gift cards. (From OP: "I missed a deadline to 'register' a Red Letter Days voucher")

What is so hard to understand about that? rolleyes.gif

Because a gift card and a voucher work the same way. It's just a different way of providing the same service. Threads move on you've claimed marks and Spencer's do not operate like rld. When in fact they do. Therefore your whole argument is fundamentally flawed and makes it hard for people to agree with you

There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding here. Marks and Spencer still issue both vouchers and cards and the vouchers do not have any expiry date. This is true of the vouchers of many other companies.

Except that you've just explicitly stated that they don't. rolleyes.gif

    You're just trolling, now.

Just admit you've got it wrong and move on.

The only vouchers I could check were Boots and M&S, neither of which had any expiry date. I do not recollect any book or record tokens having expiry dates, either.

    Directly from HMV website
    7. If the card is not used for a consecutive period of 24 months (whether to make a purchase, top-up or to make a balance inquiry), the card will automatically expire and any remaining balance will be deducted. If the card shows a zero balance and no transaction(s) for a continuous period of 180 days, it will automatically expire at the end of that period.

    M&S Gift Card T&Cs
<LI value=0>Gift cards are valid for 24 months from the last transaction (transactions include balance enquiries). Any remaining balance will be cancelled on expiry of the validity period.

    And From Boots
Any remaining value on this Giftcard will be removed if it is not used for 24 consecutive months.

So plainly gift cards of this kind have an expiry date if they are not used for 24 consecutive months.

Though It is worth noting that modern gift cards like these and others can be topped up, but again - an expiry date is applied.

So now that we have established that other companies can keep your money if you do not use a gift card within a certain amount of time - what is the difference between them and RLD?

  • Gift card/Voucher it doesnt matter in what form they are in they clearly have an expiry date in their T&Cs.

  • And also I would like to add that the high street vouchers that you can buy from HERE also have an expiry date
All gift vouchers purchased from highstreetvouchers.com have a minimum of nine months until the expiry date, giving the recipient plenty of time to choose something perfect.
