do I wanna buy a kindle?

I really like the idea of a Kindle and I have several friends who swear by them... but...
I absolutely REFUSE to buy a Kindle when I have a choice of one model (effectively) and it's £80 (or thereabouts). In the US the same model is £48, but there are two other models including a very nice looking colour screen. WAKE UP AMAZON! Nobody in their right mind should be buying this overpriced rubbish until you bring the price down to a worldwide level.
FWIW I also think Amazon should be virtually giving the Kindle away to promote its ebook format. Make your money from the content not the hardware, own the content! Didn't you learn anything from Betamax! :¬)

thanks peeps
Ben
The kindle is good, however i find the ipad is good for reading books also and there is a wider variety of free books available. Even for technononos its still really simple and easy to use. Also theres extra perks with the ipad.0 -
For loads of free books on Kindle from Amazon.co.uk, go to:
Kindle store
Kindle books
Kindle bestsellers (left hand column)
This brings up the top 100 free kindle books (second column)
Going back to the left hand column you can further click on individual categories of books (I've had some great free cook books)
The free books change regularly, so it is worth logging in now and again to see what is on offer.
Also once books are in your kindle library on amazon you can also access them on your android tablet, ipod touch, smart phone, netbook etc.
For example, you can have the same book downloaded to two devices, and provided they have access to wifi they will automatically synch to the last page you read on the other device. Neat trick.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Not sure what you mean by a USB, if you mean a memory stick then download to your computer then put them on the Kindle from the computer using the supplied USB connector that comes with it.

Interesting reading folks. Thanks for the advice.
Nearly bought one a few weeks back but decided to wait to the new year and see what deals are available. Still not 100% sure about it. Had hoped ebooks were going to be considerably cheaper and easier/quicker to get than normal books. Seems that's not always the case, so I'm still not decided.
A good bargain in the new year might sway me.0 -
I had one for Christmas last year -- and even though I can use it etc-- I so much prefer books-real books-page turning -books!

LOL! You don't even have to wait....
You can download the 'Kindle for PC' software, and start downloading books into your amazon Kindle library. Then when you get your kindle you just go into your library on your pc and click on the tab next to the book that says 'transfer to kindle'.
Go on! Get started! You know you want to!!!
EDIT just go to kindle books and click on the blue icon on the right (kindle reading apps)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
